The large car segment is growing smaller and is currently dominated by a handful of models. Car shoppers should have an easy time comparing and contrasting large cars. One of the best cars in the segment is actually a sports car: the 2023 Kia Stinger. Here’s a look at three advantages the 2023 Kia Stinger has over the 2023 Volkswagen Arteon.

1. The 2023 Kia Stinger is a much more affordable large car

Off the bat, one of the main differences between the two large cars is the price. According to Edmunds, the 2023 Stinger will start with an MSRP of about $36,500. At that price point, the Stinger is one of the cheapest cars in the segment and is much cheaper than the Arteon. The 2023 Arteon will start at an MSRP of about $42,500. This reflects a roughly $2,000 price hike from the 2022 model year.

Car shoppers who choose the Kia over the Volkswagen will save about $6,000 on the standard trim. This price difference means Kia customers can get a higher quality trim or more options for their Stinger and still save money than if they had bought the Arteon.

However, this price gap doesn’t stay consistent at the very high end of trims. A fully-loaded Stinger can cost up to $58,000, while a fully-loaded Arteon will be just over $50,000.

2. Kia gave the Stinger a better standard warranty

All Kias are well-known to have an excellent standard warranty, which is valid for the Stinger. According to Edmunds, the Stinger has a five-year or 60,000-mile basic warranty. It also has a 10-year or 100,000-mile drivetrain warranty and a five-year or 100,000-mile rust warranty. Finally, it has a five-year or 60,000-mile roadside assistance warranty.

In comparison, Volkswagen gave the Arteon a shorter warranty package. It has a four-year or 50,000-mile basic warranty and a four-year or 50,000-mile drivetrain warranty. It also has a seven-year or 100,000-mile rust warranty and a three-year or 36,000-mile roadside assistance warranty. Overall, the Stinger has the better warranty package, though Volkswagen will offer two years of rust coverage more than Kia will.

3. Kia has a powerful engine option that’s available

Finally, the Kia is a more powerful car, offering a more powerful engine. Both large cars start with a four-cylinder engine. The Kia gets a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, while the Volkswagen receives a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Both engines get 300 hp, but the Stinger gets more torque. The Arteon gets 295 lb-ft of torque, while the Stinger gets 311 lb-ft of torque.

On top of that, Kia offers a second engine option, while the four-cylinder is the Arteon’s only engine option. Kia offers Stinger customers a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 option, and this option gets 368 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. With this engine equipped, the Stinger becomes a sports car that competes with the likes of the Ford Mustang and the Chevy Camaro. This V6 engine allows the Stinger to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, which is faster than many of its competitors.

For example, a Dodge Charger with a 5.7-liter V8 needs 5.1 seconds to hit 60 mph. A Mustang with its 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine needs 5.1 seconds to hit 60 mph. The Arteon is even slower, needing 7.9 seconds to hit 60 mph. Even with the standard engine, the Stinger is the fastest car, hitting 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds.
