The 2026 Mazda CX-5 Solves Crucial Problems
I can’t pretend not to be excited about the next-generation Mazda CX-5. Every year, I review the entire lineup of Mazda SUVs, and I’ve been waiting on these CX-5 upgrades to happen. The upgrades fix multiple potentially frustrating issues.
The 2026 Mazda CX-5 glow-up solves problems
As the 2026 Mazda CX-5 launches its third-generation it arrived with a fresh style and plenty of exciting upgrades. The second-generation launched back in 2017, so in my humble opinion, the CX-5 was starting to show its age.
That’s why I’m the most excited about the upgraded tech! It has a standard 12.9-inch touchscreen and an available 15.6-inch infotainment system.
That means the days of using the rotary dial and click system are gone. The system is powered by Google. Plus, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Standard features include a wireless phone charging pad and plenty of USB-C ports.
Next, the CX-5 is a bit larger than before. The exterior is increased by 4.5 inches, and the wheelbase is half an inch wider. That means you get more passenger and cargo space.
The door openings are wider to provide more convenience, and a new panoramic moonroof provides an open and airy feeling. According to Mazda, the CX-5 maintains a minimalist design with a modern interior that’s uncluttered and functional.
Also, I like the look of the new CX-5. It’s more aggressive and chiseled with confidence. Its athletic style borrows from the Mazda CX-50 and CX-90 for a more uniform look across the lineup.
A hybrid engine is on the way. I’m reviewing a 2025 CX-5 right now with the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that provides 256 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. I’m getting about 26 mpg, but I bet the 2026 CX-5 Hybrid will do even better.
