I got the 2025 GMC Sierra EV stuck in mud but a Ram 3500 made things worse
Good afternoon, this is my formal apology to General Motors. I take full responsibility for getting the 2025 GMC Sierra EV stuck in the mud. Luckily, nothing was damaged, but a Ram 3500 HD made the situation much worse. Here’s what happened.
***No trucks were harmed during my shenanigans.
I got the 2025 GMC Sierra EV stuck in the mud
Whenever I have a truck, I have to repress spider monkey urges to go wild in the woods. Because I live in Asheville, NC, a lot of my favorite off-roading trails and back roads for cruising were destroyed by Hurricane Helene.
One morning, after thunderstorms swept through the area, my internet was knocked out for an entire day. So, I took the opportunity to spend time with the 2025 GMC Sierra EV that I was reviewing.
I went out looking for fresh air and pretty places to take pictures. I avoided my usual off-roading areas because they were littered with fallen trees and unstable terrain.
But I found a trailhead without anyone around and pulled into the grass, thinking it’d be perfect for a photoshoot. As soon as I pulled off the road into the grass and placed the truck in park, I started sliding.
I sank down towards a ditch in thick red mud. Every time I cut the wheels and accelerated to climb out, things got worse. So, I called a tow truck company that specializes in heavy vehicle recoveries.

In the meantime, a nice gentleman in a Ram 3500 HD offered me help. I declined, explaining that it wasn’t my truck and the tow truck was on its way. It would be liable if something went wrong during the recovery process.
But the Ram driver insisted that he had chains and could do it, so he pulled off in front of me and got himself stuck. The two trucks were too close together for either of us to safely make a move.
I wanted to try using Crab Mode to get out, but didn’t want to risk hitting the giant Ram dually. But I did see the tires turn to crawl out sideways. It would have been cool to test.
The tow truck driver had to winch him out first, adding time to my ordeal. He drove off while I was still stuck. Luckily, the Sierra EV can be winched out, but I would have felt better if it had tow hooks.
Also, I felt safe with this solution as Land Rover has taught me how to recover vehicles with a winch. The truck made it back to the pavement and I drove home, embarrassed. Spectators in a Ford Expedition didn’t get stuck as they pulled into the grass to watch.
I didn’t think about the Sierra EV weighing 8,970 lbs when I pulled off into wet grass. Also, the Ram 3500 HD weighs up to 9,252 lbs. So, the electric truck and a diesel truck both got stuck due to driver errors. But at least nothing was damaged aside from egos and pride.
