The Volkswagen Bus — or Type 2 Microbus — has an important place in automotive history, with it beloved by many automotive enthusiasts and its association with the 1960s counterculture movement. Now, the iconic VW Bus is going electric with the first ever 2024 VW ID. Buzz. Find out what we know so far about its release date, price, features, specs, and color options.

When is the 2024 VW ID. Buzz coming out?

In the United States, the 2024 VW ID. Buzz will hit roads in 2024. It will be available at Volkswagen dealerships throughout the country. Volkswagen will announce pre-order and reservation information at a later date. For the European market, the release date of the ID. Buzz will be later in 2022. Also, an ID. Buzz Cargo van model will be available in Europe but not in the U.S. 

How much is the 2024 VW ID. Buzz?

Volkswagen did not yet reveal how much the 2022 VW ID. Buzz will cost. The trim information is not yet available either. However, Car and Driver estimates that the ID. Buzz will have a starting price of around $40,000.

The 2024 VW ID. Buzz features Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive (MEB) platform, which the VW ID.4 crossover SUV also utilizes. Buyers of the ID. Buzz have a choice of two electric motor configurations. A single-motor rear-wheel drive version generates 201 hp, and a dual-motor all-wheel drive version produces 295 hp.

According to Volkswagen, the battery pack in the American-spec ID. Buzz will be larger than the 77-kWh pack in the European-spec model. Car and Driver estimates that the driving range of the ID. Buzz will be at least 260 miles. For charging capabilities, Volkswagen claims that the ID. Buzz “will be able to charge from 5 to 80 percent in as little as 30 minutes” when plugged into a DC fast charger.

2024 VW ID. Buzz: Design and exterior and interior features

The 2024 VW ID. Buzz blends classic styling cues from VW Bus models of yesteryear with modern design elements. Notable exterior features include uniquely styled headlights, a slim lateral bar between the headlights, and short body overhangs. At the rear, the ID. Buzz features horizontally arranged LED taillights connected by a full-width light strip. For color options, both single-tone and two-tone hues will be available.

The cabin of the ID. Buzz is cavernous, with a generous amount of space for both passengers and cargo. Also, the ID. Buzz cabin provides a great deal of configurability. Notable interior features include a 10” or 12” Digital Cockpit display, a 10” or 12” infotainment system, ambient lighting, an adjustable load floor, massaging front seats, and a dual-zone climate control system.

As detailed earlier, the release date of the new 2024 VW ID. Buzz electric van will be in 2024 for the U.S. and later in 2022 for Europe. Also, the estimated starting price of the 2024 ID. Buzz is around $40,000, but we’ll have to wait until Volkswagen provides the official cost information.
