Spy photos are starting to emerge as the 2024 Toyota Tacoma enters testing. Previous images showed the next-generation Tacoma heavily covered in camouflage. Even the back wheels were hidden.

However, new images during off-road tests reveal that the Tacoma may have an updated coil-spring suspension. Reportedly, Toyota removed the camouflage so the Tacoma could be tested to its full capacity.

The new Tacoma suspension is heavily influenced by the 2022 Toyota Tundra, which uses the Toyota TNGA GA-F platform. The Toyota Tacoma will ride on a modified version of this platform for mid-size vehicles.

You can see that the Tacoma has the same suspension details, coil spring mountain points, and trailing arm design as the new Toyota Tundra. According to Pickup Truck Talk, there are no leaf springs.

Will the 2024 Tacoma have a better ride?

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma may have a smoother ride thanks to the rear coil spring suspension. Plus, it could have even better off-roading capabilities. This gives the Tacoma an advantage over rivals like the Ford Ranger and Nissan Frontier.

The current Tacoma generation uses a double-wishbone coil setup with coil springs in the front and leaf springs in the rear. Gas-type shock absorbers fortify the suspension. The rear also rides on a solid axle.

It’s different to see the total package in the spy shots, so it’s unclear if the solid axle will stay. Solid axles are typically the better choice for crawling over rocks due to the enhanced traction, durability, and suspension travel.

But independent suspensions provide a better ride quality over bumps. Plus, the setup is lighter, and the coils can be fine-tuned for better performance and more flexibility. However, they might not have less load-bearing capabilities.

What else do we know about the new Tacoma?

Aside from a few suspension clues, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma remains a mystery. But this new information is a great start. Now we know that the new Tacoma will debut in 2024. Plus, it’s already being tested.

We should get more clues and official teasers by the end of the summer. The 2022 Toyota Tacoma starts at $27,150. The 2024 Tacoma could cost a few extra hundred bucks to cover all of the upgrades.

The Tacoma already looks like a miniature Toyota Tundra with matching headlights, grilles, bumpers, and taillights. It’s safe to expect new fog lights, exclusive paint colors, and new wheel designs.

We’re excited to see the new interior. High-quality items will replace cheap materials such as hard plastics. The interior should be modern, durable, and luxurious with new infotainment screens and an upgraded digital gauge cluster.

Rumors about new hybrid and electric engines are in the works. We will learn more soon and keep you updated with the latest news. Until then, we can confirm that the new Tacoma will ride differently.
