Rachel Brent thought buying a brand-new truck meant avoiding reliability issues. Her 2024 Silverado 1500 had just 11,000 miles when it happened. She started it up, shifted into reverse—nothing. The truck revved, but wouldn’t move. With the help of a kind stranger, she pushed it out of her parking spot. She held her breath while shifting into drive. It rolled forward. Little did she know her Silverado transmission troubles were only beginning.

Rachel took to the Official Chevy Silverado GMC Sierra Owners group on Facebook, hoping someone had answers. Instead, she found other Silverado owners with the same problem. Denis Flierl at TorqueNews first reported her story, and now more drivers are coming forward with identical failures.

A sudden failure, then a loud bang

Rachel’s truck seemed fine once she got moving. But at 15 mph, the engine revved out of control. Then—BANG. A violent jolt shook the Silverado. She pulled over, heart racing. After sitting for a few minutes, she cautiously shifted into reverse. This time, it worked.

She drove home, still rattled. The truck ran fine for 40 miles. Maybe it was just a glitch. Maybe it wouldn’t happen again. But the next day, the Silverado’s transmission failed completely.

Chevrolet has no parts, no loaner, and no answers

Rachel’s dealer diagnosed a failed transmission valve body. But fixing it wasn’t so simple. “My truck is in the shop for 3 months minimum because the transmission valve cover is on backorder,” she said.

With no parts available, she asked Chevrolet for a loaner. They refused. “I have gone around and around with Chevrolet and they just give empty responses,” she said. “I’m on day 8 with no vehicle and no end in sight.”

Other Silverado owners report the same failure

Rachel isn’t alone. Other Silverado owners are reporting identical 10-speed transmission failures. Some have been quoted months-long delays for backordered parts. “I was quoted 3 months + on the backordered part and no loaner provided,” one driver said.

Some dealerships are helping. “At least they gave me a loaner. My dealer is great,” another owner said. But Rachel wasn’t as lucky. “The dealer where mine is only has 2 loaners and they’re both being used,” she said. What about the automaker? “Chevrolet has been of zero help.”

Rachel’s options are limited. For now. “Unfortunately, I have to wait until it’s been in the shop for 30 days to take any legal action,” she said. But unless Chevrolet finds a fix soon, that countdown has already started.
