The 2024 Mazda CX-90 could easily wear a luxury badge. We’ve discussed the Mazda lineup reaching into premium levels of class and comfort for years, but this Mazda SUV takes things further. Could this new midsize crossover SUV be the class leader you want in your driveway? Here are five things that could make it a great choice.

1. The 2024 Mazda CX-90 has more room for everyone and everything

The new Mazda CX-90 replaces the outgoing CX-9 and is a little larger. The new Mazda SUV is 1.4 inches longer, 0.6 inches taller, and 1.0 inches wider than its predecessor. These figures don’t make it sound much bigger, but the added 7.5 inches for the wheelbase makes a huge difference. The CX-90 has a 122.8-inch wheelbase which puts it on the larger end of the midsize SUV segment. This added wheelbase length translates into more interior room for passengers and cargo.

2. Enjoy an extensive menu of trims in this Mazda SUV

Mazda delivers eight different trims for this new crossover SUV. If you’re searching for a three-row SUV, you’ll be impressed by the variety of options offered in the CX-90. Lower trims tend to lack some of the elevated technological features offered in the higher trims. The price range from the base model to the highest trim is $39,595 to $59,950.

3. The Kodo design philosophy is on display in the 2024 Mazda CX-90

The CX-90 takes things upmarket and packs sophistication and elegance in the cabin. This SUV brings excellent materials, including real maple wood, dark brushed meta, and high-end seating materials to create an excellent balance. The way the classy looks blend with the tech features is pretty amazing in the Mazda SUV.

4. Three powertrains to make driving right

The three powertrain versions of the Mazda CX-90 are Turbo, Turbo S, and PHEV. That’s right, Mazda has a plug-in hybrid SUV, and it’s found in this three-row model. The Turbo and Turbo S models utilize a 3.3-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid battery system. This gives the Turbo models 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, while the Turbo S versions offer 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

The PHEV models utilize a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and an electric motor to combine and produce 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. All Mazda CX-90s require premium fuel.

5. Finally, more gears in a Mazda SUV transmission

Mazda is one of the last brands to ditch six-speed automatic transmissions. The CX-90 is the first Mazda with more than six gears, giving owners an impressive 8-speed automatic transmission for the Turbo and Turbo S powertrains. This new transmission utilized a wet clutch pack which is more compact, trimming the transmission size by one foot compared to a conventional torque converter.

Is the 2024 Mazda CX-90 a Luxury SUV?

Choose the Mazda CX-90 Turbo S in Premium Plus trim, and you’ll think you’ve gotten into the wrong vehicle. Is this really a Mazda SUV? This trim level brings an upmarket feeling with soft Nappa leather, Japanese Maplewood trim, and attractive cloth for the dashboard. It’s unlikely you’ll find many luxury SUVs with a more inviting and elegant feeling.

Will this new Mazda SUV become the three-row midsize SUV you love to drive every day? It will be here before you know it.
