It’s time for my official 2024 Jeep Compass review. After spending a week with the Latitude trim, which is only one level above the standard Sport trim, I found that the Compass is much better than you think.

2024 Jeep Compass review, is this SUV worth buying?

Yes, the 2024 Jeep Compass is worth buying. In fact, I laid out why it’s a bargain here. It’s able to punch above its weight in terms of comfort, value, and off-roading capabilities. Plus, it’s specious and agile. But let’s start with a few drawbacks.

Potential 2024 Jeep Compass drawbacks

  • The brakes are sensitive (but it doesn’t take long to master smooth stops)
  • Some of the cheaper interior materials seem easy to scratch and scuff
  • The tech and HVAC controls have buttons instead of dials
  • The air dam on my model hung too low, it was easy to scrape
  • My model didn’t have a sunroof

Now for what I like about the 2024 Compass

Many people told me this week that they used to have a Jeep Compass about 10 years ago and it was cheap and underpowered. But that’s no longer the case.

It has a standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 200 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds. It’s more athletic and faster than rivals such as the Toyota RAV4.

Plus, the Compass has well-weighted steering and solid planting around curves. It corners well and keeps body lean at bay for a confident performance.

I didn’t have an off-roading model, 4×4 is standard and my model had a 4×4 lock, giving it a leg up on the competition. It was a little rough over gravel and dirt roads, but extremely confident and easy to control.

The Compass has an 18.1-inch turning radius, making it convenient to maneuver in tight city parking lots and crowded areas of the woods.

Comfort on the road is above average. It has a smoother ride than the RAV4 and a quieter interior than the Honda CR-V. The seats aren’t as stiff as the ones in the Mazda CX-5 and there’s plenty of space to stretch out.

The space in the rear seat is moderate. You get more room than you have in the Mazda CX-30. At 5’1” I felt comfortable but taller folks may feel tight. There’s room for two adults in the back, plus rear air vents will keep them cool.

The interior has an attractive layout with a blend of high-quality materials and plastics. Pops of silver and brown break up large sections of black upholstery. I

It has a hint of elegance with rugged practicality. I enjoy the all-weather mats as I’m constantly tracking dirt and debris.

My 2024 Jeep Compass has a standard gauge cluster, but it has an attractive style and is easy to read. The 10.1 infotainment system has vibrant graphics and a high resolution.

However, people may wish it had more physical controls as the touch screen and HVAC buttons can be distracting. Also, the rearview camera feed is huge and helpful.

Storage for smaller items is abundant thanks to a large bin in front of the center console. The glove box and center console are generous.

The Jeep Compass provides 27.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 59.8 cubes overall. That’s average for the class. It can also tow up to 2,000 lbs, which is more than the Honda CR-V.

Overall, the Compass is comfortable, capable, convenient, athletic, and full of value. It deserves a chance against more popular rivals.
