Sometimes, heavy-duty trucks don’t get all of the same safety features a regular pickup truck might get. That might be the case for some trucks, but the 2024 GMC Sierra HD is getting more safety features standard than ever before. From the GMC Sierra 2500 to the new Denali Ultimate trim, this pickup truck has all the heavy-duty towing capability buyers want.

Buyers of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD will get the Pro Safety suite

According to GMC, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD is the most luxurious and capable truck the brand has ever made. For 2024, the Sierra HD comes with a few new trim offerings, like the Sierra HD Denali Ultimate and the AT4X off-road trim. GMC says the 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 combined with the Allison transmission gets 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque. The 2024 Sierra Heavy Duty can tow between 21,900 and 22,500 pounds. For the 3500, the maximum towing capacity is 36,000 pounds with the Duramax V8 engine, Max Trailering Package, and gooseneck hitch.

On top of that, it gets the new Sierra HD Pro Safety suite of driver assistance technology. This includes all the safety systems one might want, like Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Automatic Emergency Braking. Front Pedestrian Braking is new for this year, and IntelliBeam auto high beams make driving at night easier. A new Following Distance Indicator helps keep the truck safe from other vehicles. If that isn’t enough, a Pro Safety Plus Package adds Rear Cross-Traffic Braking and the Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert.

The 2024 GMC Sierra HD also gets more trailer safety technology

Buyers of the new GMC Sierra Heavy Duty will be happy to know that new trailering assistance technology is also available along with new safety technology. With the ProGrade Trailering System, the Sierra HD will offer the most assistance technology out of all the heavy-duty trucks.

GMC’s Transparent Trailer View system for Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel Trailering allows the driver to “see” through the trailer using a camera on the back of the truck. Another camera sits on the back of the trailer and puts the image together on the screen, improving visibility.

Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert and a new Gross Combined Weight Rating Alert make trailering safer. GMC offers an available Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailering system that can account for additional drag and increased braking distances while towing.

The Sierra HD Denali Ultimate is about as luxurious as it gets

For the 2024 GMC Sierra Heavy-Duty Denali Ultimate, long names aren’t the only thing this truck has to offer. GMC says it is the “most premium, luxurious and technologically advanced Sierra HD yet, equipped with unique enhancements to the overall design and premium interior appointments.”

A Vader chrome grille, 20-inch Ultra-bright machined aluminum wheels, and fender badging featuring the landscapes of Mount Denali add to the exterior. The Denali Ultimate also gets a six-way MultiPro Tailgate, a Kicker audio system, and power assist steps are also standard. It also has an exclusive Alpine Umber interior, full-grain leather appointments, and open-pore Paldao wood. For off-roading, the GMC Sierra HD AT4 gets upgrades to make it capable off the beaten path.

While pricing for the 2024 GMC Sierra HD hasn’t been confirmed yet, it will likely land between $40,000 and $90,000. At the end of the day, more safety systems and technology offer a significant improvement for potential buyers. For those who need a heavy-duty truck that doubles as a family vehicle, the GMC Sierra HD might be worth another look.
