Heavy-duty trucks used to feel like leftover thoughts. These trucks have always had massive powertrains to deliver incredible towing and payload numbers, but only recently have they come into their own. The 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4 sits right in the middle of the lineup for the next generation of this GMC truck, giving you off-road capabilities at the heavy-duty level.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra HD lineup as robust as the half-ton model?

Yes, this is how these big haulers have evolved. When this new version of the Sierra HD arrives, the trims offered will be Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. Does this list look familiar? It should; these are the same trim names that we find for the smaller half-ton Sierra 1500.

What should we see when this new heavy-duty truck arrives?

When the new 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4 hits the market, it’s expected to offer a healthy dose of off-road ability, luxury appointments, and heavy-duty truck performance. • Spray-on bedliner
  • GMC MultiPro Tailgate
  • 20-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels

How much power does the 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4 produce?

The standard powertrain for this heavy-duty off-road truck is the same naturally aspirated 6.6-liter V8 engine mated to a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission. This powertrain produces 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. The only change to this powertrain is the improved transmission with more gears than the outgoing six-speed model.

Of course, if you want more power, you can have this big GMC truck with the 6.6-liter turbodiesel Duramax V8 engine. This engine is tuned up to provide 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque compared to the 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque from the previous generation. This diesel also enjoys the benefits of a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission.

That’s not all, but more details about this big off-road truck will have to wait
