After months of waiting, the 2024 Ford Ranger finally has a new engine. Now it packs a little more muscle to offer buyers an extra option. Let’s see how it compares to the entry-level engine and the Raptor model.

What engines come with the 2024 Ford Ranger?

The 2024 Ford Ranger is now available with the turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 engine, which produces 315 hp and 400 lb of torque. This engine is the new mid-range option.

You can stick with the more affordable turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 270 hp and 310 to save a few thousand bucks. This is the standard engine.

Also, you can go bigger by upgrading to the Raptor. The Ranger Raptor is equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine with 405 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque.

Each engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Also, 4×4 is only standard with the Raptor model.

I’ve driven the 2024 Ranger with the 2.7-liter engine and was pleasantly surprised by its power and willingness to get off the line.

It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.7 seconds, which is great for the class. The engine is a bit faster than the standard unit found in the Toyota Tacoma.

Also, the Ford Ranger Raptor can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.3 seconds. I feel like you would expect a bigger difference between it and the entry-level engine.

It’s unclear how quickly the 2.7-liter engine gets the Ranger to 60 mph, but it’s safe to assume it’s somewhere in the middle.

The entry-level Ranger XL model has an MSRP of $32,820 and isn’t available with the 2.7-liter engine. It is available with the XLT trim which starts at $36,260.

Upgrading to the 2.7-liter engine increases the price by $5,680 because it requires you to add 4×4. This increases the XLT starting price to $41,940. Adding 4×4 to a 2024 Ford Ranger costs $3,645, so the bump in power is pretty expensive.
