We are still waiting for the new Ford Ranger to arrive, and now we’re worried that things could be delayed. The demand for this updated midsize truck in other countries is pretty high, and the 2024 Ford Ranger could face the consequences.

How long is the 2024 Ford Ranger wait?

Typically it takes about six weeks for a new truck to arrive through the ordering process, but the timeline for the 2024 Ford Ranger could be different. We’ve already seen what massive delays can do to the automotive industry.

The ongoing semiconductor chip shortage and other supply chain constraints caused popular models like the Ford F-150, Ford Bronco, and Ford Maverick to be delayed for six months to a year.

But we don’t even have the 2024 Ranger at dealerships yet. It’s expected to enter production in April or May of 2023. However, according to Ford Authority, the European model faces some issues that could take time to resolve.

As a result, fixing these quality issues could take priority over getting the new Ranger in America. However, the models in Australia in other countries are a bit different, and may not impact the American versions.

What are the potential 2024 Ranger Problems?

In places like Australia, the new Ford Ranger has been met with tremendous demand. Depending on which model drivers choose, they could be waiting for up to a year. Production has already increased in an attempt to meet demand.

Some models were delayed by biohazard concerns. Vehicles shipped from Thailand to Australia were held at ports for quarantine inspections and cleaning as part of the country’s biohazard protection program.

However, the 2024 Ford Ranger will be produced in America. Still, over 10,000 vehicles have been sitting at ports due to this delay.

Then the Ranger had quality issues to correct. Some models struggled with ride quality due to harsh vibrations. The Wildtrak model seemed to be worse than others. The issue occurred at speeds between 20 to 50 mph.

Ford needed to contact drivers to schedule repairs and then began testing new trucks before they were delivered, leading to delays.

Other issues include the infotainment screen cutting out, sensor failure, random braking at high speeds, and failure to start. Only nine Ford Ranger models have been replaced out of the 25,587. Models that needed repairs have experienced unreasonable delays.

Is the American Ford Ranger different from the global model?

Yes, the 2024 Ford Ranger has a few key differences from the global model. For example, it will look slightly different. The front bumper, grille, clip, and lights may be placed more tightly together.

Ford reinforced the steel frame to increase rigidity and to accommodate the 2.0-inch tow hitch receiver that’s popular in the North American market. Also, the frame rails and chassis were adjusted to meet American safety standards.

The rear axle was replaced by the Dana Advantrek M220 beam axle and paired with leaf springs to improve the truck’s weight and handling.

We also get fewer engine options. Americans don’t get to enjoy the turbodiesel units, like the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 210 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque.

The American Ranger has the same 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque as the outgoing model. But you can upgrade to the 2.7-liter V6 engine for 315 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The Ford Ranger Raptor has a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine with 405 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque.

The Australian model arrived with problems and delays that could push the American Ranger back. But perhaps the American model will debut with fewer issues to correct.
