Didn’t Chevrolet recently update the Traverse SUV? In fact, this 3-row SUV received a delayed mid-cycle refresh in 2022, but it’s time for a new Traverse. The 2024 Chevy Traverse is the start of the next generation for this family-sized Chevy SUV. Early images show a beefier build, giving the idea of a more muscular vehicle. Does this new Traverse offer more power than before?

Chevrolet placed the primary headlights lower in the front bumper and lifted the daytime running lights right under the hood’s edge for a stronger appearance. This separation of the lights offers a bolder look which is enhanced by the horizontal bar stretching across the top grille with the Chevrolet bowtie emblem in the center.

This Chevy SUV has unique side panels

Typically, the side panels of most large SUVs and minivans are unassuming and boxy. While still boxy, the new Chevrolet Traverse offers sculpted fenders, scalloped lower door details, and a C-pillar inspired by the tailfins found on aircraft.

The large and more muscular build ends in the rear with an upright, boxy look, sports thin taillights with a horizontal shape, and a set of quad exhaust ports offering the finishing touches. Overall, this new 2024 Chevy Traverse looks much more imposing and muscular than the current generation.

Will this new Chevy 3-row SUV be stronger than before?

Rumors suggest GM intends to use the same 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine from the 2023 Chevy Colorado in the new Chevrolet Traverse. This engine puts out 237 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque and uses a 9-speed automatic transmission for the shifting.

If this new powertrain is used, it should be more efficient than the outgoing 3.6-liter V6 engine currently found in the 2023 Chevy Traverse. This current powertrain makes 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. This could mean the new Travers isn’t stronger but could be more efficient.

Should we expect the 2024 Chevy Traverse to have a better interior?

The Chevrolet Traverse has never been known for leading the three-row midsize SUV category with interior quality. GM intends to change that with this next-generation Chevy SUV. The new Chevy Traverse should see improved materials, upgraded technology, and better fit and finishes.

The three-row seating layout will continue, and the new bulk of this SUV could mean a larger footprint, which should improve interior passenger and cargo space.

Is the Chevy Traverse a good SUV?

The current Chevrolet Traverse is ranked third out of 22 midsize SUVs by U.S. News & World Report. This SUV is impressive across the board, with excellent standard tech and driver-assist features. There’s ample room for passengers to be comfortable in all three rows of this Chevy SUV.

Although it’s highly ranked, it can be tough to maneuver in tight spaces. This might not be good news for the 2024 model, which is larger and more muscular. Still, GM could equip this SUV with an automatic parking feature to make it much easier to handle in parking lots.

When does this new Chevy Traverse go into production?

Early reports from GM Authority tell us this new Chevy SUV should begin production in late December. This makes it available in the first quarter of 2024. This will make the new Traverse a true 2024 model instead of one that appears in the autumn like many other new vehicle models.
