2024 Chevrolet Traverse: What’s New and Exciting?
The new 2024 Chevrolet Traverse brings a complete makeover to deliver a more utilitarian shape. Testing mules spotted on the roads show a midsize Chevy SUV with a square shape that’s also somehow sportier than the current model. We expect to see a Traverse with a blunt front end and larger body sides.
Are any details confirmed for the new 2024 Chevy Traverse?
Chevy hasn’t revealed when the new Traverse will make its official debut, but from the testing models, we know this SUV has a set of stacked front lights with slim LEDs above the large side air intakes. This change delivers a resemblance to the Chevy Blazer and Trailblazer SUVs.
Overall, this new SUV appears more rugged and brings the feeling that it can head out on the trails for fun. The new Traverse might be made for real adventures and less of a cushy crossover meant to replace minivans.
Will this three-row midsize SUV ride on a new set of wheels?
The testing models spotted on public roads feature a new set of alloy wheels with a split-spoke layout and black finish. GM Authority shows these wheels in various images, giving this new midsize SUV a stronger and sportier appearance.
Another interesting detail not hidden by camouflage is the set of dual-exhaust pipes sticking out from under the rear of the Chevy Traverse.
We know one engine but not the output for the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse
The only powertrain confirmed for this new Chevy three-row midsize SUV is a 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder model that mates to a nine-speed automatic transmission. GM Authority speculates the power output of this engine to be 287 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque.
The current Traverse only uses a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 engine with 305 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. If the new engine specs are accurate, more torque translates to more pulling power and acceleration, making the new 2024 Chevrolet Traverse sportier and more useful.
Changes to the new Traverse SUV lineup?
Chevrolet has already confirmed changes to the lineup of this three-row SUV. A new Z71 off-road trim replaces the Activ trim while the RS and High Country models are dropped. This new 2024 model is the start of the third generation of this Chevy SUV. This all-new version should remain roughly the same size as the current generation, but it should be sportier and more capable than before.
Will the Z71 Traverse be a capable off-roader?
Three-row midsize SUVs continually add off-road variants to their respective lineups. There’s no reason the new Chevy Traverse shouldn’t offer the same. The new Traverse Z71 will include:
- All-wheel drive
- Off-road suspension
- Higher ride height
- All-terrain tires
- Red recovery hooks
- Skid plates
This new off-road Travers should be a worthy challenger to the Ford Explorer Timberline, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, Honda Pilot TrailSport, and Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition.
Although we’ve learned a little about the new 2024 Chevrolet Traverse SUV, we still have much more to learn between now and when this Chevy hits the market for the 2024 model year. Production for this SUV begins in December, maybe we’ll learn more before then.
