Alfa Romeo added another SUV to its lineup recently, the Tonale. As a compact model, it’s smaller than the Stelvio, but does it offer just as much? For the 2024 model year, the automaker just announced its reasonable starting price, making it a seriously great value for some drivers. How much is a 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale luxury crossover, and what features does it come with?

According to Kelley Blue Book, the automaker recently announced the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale compact luxury SUV will start at $42,995. In addition, each model will have a $1,595 destination charge, boosting the minimum price to $44,590. Moreover, the starting price aligns it with its closest competition. Models like the BMW X1, Cadillac XT4, and other luxury compact crossovers also have a similarly reasonable starting price.

Other models in the lineup are a little more costly. However, there are only three trims, and the range-toppers aren’t nearly as expensive as Alfa Romeo rivals. For example, the mid-tier Ti trim is just $44,995, a few thousand more than the Sprint base model. Additionally, the fully-loaded Veloce trim is $47,495. Remaining under $50,000 with the highest trim level is impressive for a luxury crossover model.

What powertrain does the Tonale have?

KBB says the entry-level powertrain is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine good for 256 horsepower, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. However, one step up turns it into a plug-in hybrid featuring a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with an electric motor and all-wheel drive. Combined, the output is 285 horsepower, a small boost from the base powertrain. The automaker claims the Tonale can travel over 30 miles on electric power alone.

As we mentioned previously, there are three trims in the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale lineup. They are the Sprint, Ti, and Veloce models. However, only two of the three options are available to customers for ordering today. Both use the hybrid powertrain, meaning the non-hybrid version is currently unavailable.

First, the Tonale Ti has heated front seats, a leather steering wheel, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a hands-free power liftgate. Among other things, the mid-tier Ti model provides plenty of technology along with excellent performance.

Next, the Veloce adds an adaptive suspension, perforated Alcantara faux-suede seats, and a darkened exterior trim. While it’s no Stelvio Quadrifoglio, the Veloce trim similarly adds unique design cues, performance features, and of course, more luxury.

The Tonale starting price is reasonable

Recently, a company press release stated that customers who lease an Alfa Romeo Tonale can take advantage of a $7,500 Federal EV tax credit. According to KBB, that statement is false, as the credit is only available to cars built in North America. The Tonale is built in Pomigliano d’Arco, Italy.

In conclusion, we think the new starting price for the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale is reasonable. None of the trims in the lineup are particularly expensive, like other Alfa Romeo models. For example, the Quadrifoglio trim in the Stelvio lineup costs over $85,000. We’re glad to see a luxury crossover performance model like the Tonale remain under $50,000 for the average customer.
