Honda has been slower to adapt to electric vehicle production than many of its rivals. Honda and its luxury division Acura have yet to produce any popular electric vehicles. The Acura ZDX electric SUV will be a game-changing model for the Japanese automaker.

The 2024 Acura ZDX has incredible potential

The 2024 Acura ZDX is an upcoming electric SUV based on Acura’s Precision EV concept. Acura hasn’t released any information on the ZDX yet. Thus far, all the industry knows about the ZDX is that it will be Acura’s first fully-electric vehicle.

Honda has formed a partnership with General Motors to develop electric vehicles following the early success of the Chevy Bolt. General Motors is ahead of the Japanese automaker in terms of electric vehicle production, so Honda is partnering with the company to produce the best EV that it can.

The ZDX will be closely related to the 2024 Honda Prologue BEV SUV. Since Acura vehicles are more expensive and luxurious than their Honda equivalents, expect the ZDX to be a cut above the final Honda Prologue final trim level.

Upper trim level 2024 Acura ZDX models will likely get close to 300 miles of driving range. The Equinox EV has a maximum horsepower output of 580 horses. The Acura ZDX should have similar horsepower as a compact electric SUV that’s also developed (in part) by GM.

What to expect from the Acura ZDX

It’s no secret that Honda has been slow on the draw when it comes to producing electric vehicles. The Japanese automaker has tried to produce a popular EV by collaborating with Tesla on a RAV4 EV.

Honda’s Clarity EV bit the dust after consumers found its driving range to be subpar. The automaker’s decision to partner with General Motors to develop an EV platform was a good one despite the Chevy Bolt’s battery fire controversy.

Expect the Acura ZDX to have enough power and range to represent the brand as its new electric flagship model. Today, competitive electric vehicles have at least 200 miles of driving range. The ZDX is likely to have at least 220-300 miles of driving range based on GM-produced EVs and the current industry standard.

Car and Driver expects the 2024 Honda Prologue to start around $45K. The Acura ZDX could have a starting price closer to $55,000 based on today’s EV prices and the Prologue’s estimated starting price.

Will the Acura ZDX be worth the money?

There isn’t enough information on the ZDX to determine how much value it provides yet, but Acura aims to compete in the luxury compact electric SUV segment. It will compete with Volvo XC40 Recharge, Jaguar I-Pace, and Audi Q4 E-Tron. The Acura ZDX will lead the way to the automaker’s future, so the company will pull out all the stops to make it popular.
