If you’re in the market for a compact sedan, you’re likely looking at the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, or Nissan Sentra. However, if you like to color outside the lines, then the Volkswagen Jetta is a great choice. The Jetta underwent a major overhaul for the 2022 model, but here’s what we know so far about the upcoming 2023 model.

When will the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta be available?

There are still 2022 models to be found on dealer lots across the nation, so we can expect the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta to show up in the fourth quarter of this year. According to Cars Direct, a Volkswagen fleet production bulletin announced that production for the 2023 Jetta should start later this month. In that case, any interested buyers could be waiting until closer to the end of the year to get their hands on the latest model.

How much will the 2023 Jetta be?

Pricing for the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta should remain close to the current MSRP. That means the new Jetta might start at around $21,500 and top out at around $29,000 (including the destination charge). Compared to rivals like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, the Jetta is priced competitively and offers buyers great value for their money.

2023 Volkswagen Jetta: A more-powerful engine and plenty of standard features

The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta should remain a tech-savvy and spacious compact sedan. Last year, the German automaker updated it with a larger turbocharged 1.5-liter engine that was sourced from the Taos SUV. It’s a little bigger than the 147-hp 1.4-liter engine it replaced and also puts out more power. The new engine is rated at 158 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, which is on par with its Japanese rivals.

Regarding standard features, we expect the 2023 model to be as well-equipped as the current model. In its base form, the Jetta comes standard with a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch digital cluster, a four-speaker audio system, Apple Carplay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth.

When stepping up to the higher trim levels, more features become available. Some of them include a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a nine-speaker audio system, wireless smartphone connectivity, navigation, and a wireless charging pad.

In addition to all of these features, the Volkswagen Jetta also comes with a long roster of safety features. These features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear cross-traffic alert. Some of the available safety features include lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.

What about the Volkswagen Jetta GLI?

The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta GLI should carry over as well. Kelley Blue Book expects this up-level trim to carry a price tag of around $31,000. It will also have the same 228-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that can be mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed automatic transmission.

In addition to this sportier powertrain, we expect the Jetta GLI to come standard with larger brakes, an adaptive suspension, leather seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, a sport exhaust, and an available Beats Audio sound system.

In terms of a release date, the 2023 Jetta GLI should show up around the same time as the lower-trim models.
