We have some exciting news and some potentially disappointing news. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia has been revealed, and it’s pretty exciting! But we get the new Toyota Sequoia instead of the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser. Can the Sequoia make up for the difference?

We might be struggling with FOMO or the fear of missing out because we don’t have the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser in the United States. Instead, we have the 2023 Toyota Sequoia, which was finally redesigned for the first time since 2008.

Both the Sequoia and Land Cruiser are known for being reliable and durable. However, the Land Cruiser takes off-roading to the next level. Hopefully, the new Sequoia has off-roading upgrades to compete.

The Sequoia does ride on the new Toyota Globale F body-on-frame platform like the Land Cruiser. It features a fully boxed steel frame for enhanced rigidity. Plus, it features a solid rear axle instead of an independent setup.

You can opt for rear air springs and adaptive dampers. The Sequoia TRD Pro ups the ante with 2.5-inch Fox dampers with internal-bypass chambers, remote reservoirs, and 33-inch Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires.

Does the 2023 Sequoia or Land Cruiser have more power?

Each 2023 Toyota Sequoia model comes with a standard i-FORCE MAX hybrid setup. A 3.4-liter V6 twin-turbo engine and 1.5-kWh nickel hydride battery pack generate 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque.

The 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser features a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 409 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. It also offers a 3.3-liter turbo turbodiesel engine with 304 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Hopefully, the diesel engine will become available in the United States.

Both the Sequoia and Land Cruiser’s powertrains are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The official EPA rating for the new Sequoia hasn’t been released yet.

In the Sequoia, a motor-generator is the engine starter, can recover energy while braking, and provides a power boost during acceleration and towing. It’s the primary power source at speeds below 18 mph to improve the fuel economy.

The 2023 Sequoia can tow up to 9,000 lbs, which is a 22 percent increase over the outgoing model. You can tow up to 7,716 lbs with the Land Cruiser.

Does the 2023 Sequoia or Land Cruiser have better features?

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia starts at about $50,000, and the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser begins at around $85,000. That’s quite the difference, but the Land Cruiser is considered to be a luxury vehicle. The new Toyota Sequoia Capstone trim provides luxury upgrades and may start at $70,000.

An 8.0-inch touchscreen comes standard with entry-level Sequoia. A 14.0-inch unit is standard with the rest of the lineup. You also get a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Land Cruiser has heated and ventilated seats, a cooler box, a Panasonic air purification system, an electro-kinetic dynamic suspension system, fingerprint authentication, and more.

We don’t have the 2022 Land Cruiser in America because sales were declining. People weren’t attracted to the high price tag. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia is much more affordable with enhanced capabilities but doesn’t offer as much luxury. But there isn’t anything wrong with reliable, practical options.
