The 2023 Toyota RAV4 will defend the nameplate’s position as the most popular small SUV for the upcoming year. The new small SUV got a price bump, but is it better than the previous model year? Which RAV4 trims should you want, buy, and pass on?

Why do so many Americans purchase RAV4s every year? One of the many reasons that consumers love Toyota’s small SUV is affordability. The Toyota RAV4 doesn’t break the bank, and Toyota offers plenty of different configurations for different drivers.

The RAV4 comes in trims that focus on great standard features, creature comforts, and even off-roading. The 2023 Toyota RAV4 Limited AWD is the trim to want because it’s the most decked-out RAV4 (and it’s still affordable). Even the RAV4’s final trim level is affordable, and who doesn’t want all-wheel drive, especially in areas that experience heavy snowfall?

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 Limited AWD starts at $37,280. It comes with heated outside mirrors with turn signal and blind spot warning indicators, a height-adjustable power liftgate with jam protection, and heated/ventilated front seating. The small SUV also includes a leather-trimmed steering wheel, blind-spot monitor, and a tire pressure monitor system with individual tire location alerts.

The RAV4 Limited AWD is as stacked as the RAV4 gets, and it still comes in under $40K. Not bad at all, considering today’s new vehicle prices. Factor in the small SUV’s longevity, and the final RAV4 trim is a steal long-term.

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium: Buy

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium starts at $31,975. It’s pricier than the LE and XLE, but it comes with better standard features without being overpriced.

The XLE Premium comes standard with a power tilt/slide moonroof with one-touch open/close, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, and SofTex-trimmed seats. It also includes a soft-touch dash and armrests, a backup camera with projected path, and integrated fog lights (features that aren’t standard on the XLE).

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium is the perfect middle ground between RAV4 trims. Drivers can add all-wheel drive for a grand total of $33,375.

Pass on the Toyota RAV4 LE, XLE, and TRD Off-Road

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 LE and XLE offer decent value, but the XLE Premium is the better trim for the money. If drivers are considering the new small SUV for long-term ownership, then the XLE Premium will be comfier, and its better standard tech will be appreciated. Edmunds praises the small SUV’s smooth ride quality and quiet cabin.

The Toyota RAV4 TRD Off-Road is a decent off-roader, but there are better small off-road SUVs in the small SUV segment. The 2023 Subaru Forester Wilderness is a better off-road small SUV for a more affordable price than the RAV4 TRD Off-Road. Which small SUV will provide the most value in 2023?
