The Toyota Camry continues its eighth-generation run with a new Nightshade Special Edition. While we won’t be seeing a total Toyota Camry redesign this year, we will get some attractive 2023 Camry updates. Fresh new exterior options—and a brand-new Camry color—are the biggest changes. The 2023 Camry Nightshade Edition price has not yet been set. Check back here soon for updates.

The current Camry is already the best-selling car of 2022, and the new 2023 model looks to build on the midsize sedan’s success. The Nightshade package option carries on mostly unchanged, offering a 2023 Camry Nightshade Edition in Midnight Black and a sleek Nightshade Edition in White.

New for 2023 is the Nightshade Edition in Reservoir Blue. The Camry’s new color is a deep blue with a smooth finish. It pairs well with the other striking design features of this special-edition package.

Toyota’s Nightshade Special Edition treatment is purely exterior, building on the Camry SE trim level. The goal of the exterior treatment is to give this particular Camry the look of a sport sedan on par with the Acura TLX or the BMW 3 Series. Does it succeed? To that, I’ll say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The 2023 Camry Nightshade Edition features a black front grille with a Sport Mesh insert. The Camry TRD model inspired this particular design feature. Nightshade design features include a black rear spoiler with black mirror caps and exterior badges. For 2023, Toyota adds black-trimmed headlights and taillights for the total black-out look and feel.

The final new addition—and maybe the coolest—is 19-inch matte bronze aluminum alloy wheels. The blue-and-bronze look rings a bell, but for the life of me, I can’t put my finger on it.

Nightshade Edition features, specs, and performance

The 2023 Camry Nightshade Edition includes all standard SE trim-level features, including a suite of Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ safety and driver-assistance features and automatic dual-zone climate control. Available models include the 2023 Camry SE Nightshade FWD, SE Nightshade AWD, and SE Nightshade Hybrid, so there’s a flashy option for just about everyone.

The Camry comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine making 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The Nightshade Edition can see up to 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. The 2023 Camry Hybrid Nightshade will see better fuel economy, with around 50 mpg combined. All Camry models feature Toyota’s Direct Shift eight-speed automatic transmission.

Every new 2023 Camry also offers Toyota’s 36-month/36,000-mile basic new-vehicle warranty and 60-month/60,000-mile powertrain warranty that has covered the most reliable Toyota Camry years.

Toyota confirms that the Camry Nightshade Edition trim level is still based on the mid-range Toyota Camry SE trim. Because of this, the two grades are the same in almost every way inside. Both models include the same standard features for tech, safety, and entertainment.

The Nightshade Special Edition is an exterior options package, so the two midsize sedans differ the most on the outside. The Camry SE features a more muted styling without the black accent pieces. The Camry SE and Nightshade come standard with a 2.5-liter engine and offer up to 39 mpg on the highway. Because of the exterior design features, the 2023 Camry Nightshade Edition is more expensive than the similar SE grade.
