The 2023 Toyota bZ4X Sport Attempts to Look Beefier
Everything at Toyota is eventually going electric. The 2023 Toyota bZ4X is one of the first options to consider while we wait for things like the Toyota Tacoma EV to arrive. While we wait, we can check out the new Toyota bZ4X GR Sport Concept.
The 2023 Toyota bZ4X GR Sport concept looks fast
We guess the Toyota bZ4X didn’t have enough letters already because now we get to say GR too. But that’s fine. We’re excited to see what the 2023 Toyota bZ4X GR Sport can do. GR stands for Gazoo Racing, and the Gazoo part actually means garage.
But before you get your hopes up for a new electric racing vehicle, remember that Toyota tacked on the word Sport after GR. This means that the bZ4X GR Sport could only look the part. It may only gain enhanced looks instead of upgraded equipment to provide better performance.
What comes with the bZ4X GR Sport?
The official 2023 Toyota bZ4X GR Sport hasn’t been released yet. We’ve only seen the concept so far, and that’s subject to change before the vehicle enters production. Therefore, we can still hope for a sportier performance.
Toyota noted that nothing was done to the electric powertrain or suspension. So, the bZ4X GR Sport has the same single battery with a 71.4-kWh capacity. The front-wheel drive powertrain pumps out 201 hp, and the all-wheel drive model provides 214 hp.
That’s not enough power to beat the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which provides between 266 to 459 hp. The bZ4X is expected to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.7 seconds with AWD, while the Standard Range Mach-E can reach 60 mph in about 5.8 seconds. The Mach-E GT gets there in 3.8 seconds.
But at least the bZ4X GR Sport concept looks great. It has larger tires, matte black exterior panels, and sport seats. It completes its mission of providing the Toyota bZ4X with a sportier look.
Toyota actually shared that the bZ4X GR Sport concept is designed to deliver an elevated level of environmental performance and driving pleasure. We agree that if you like the way a vehicle looks, it feels better. Perhaps by the time the bZ4X arrives in America, there will be a bZ4X GR in the mix.
The Subaru Solterra STI is mechanically the same as the bZ4X GR Sport, but it has a more attractive look. It gained a rear spoiler, red brake calipers, and an orange accent around the bottom of the chassis.
When will the bZ4X arrive?
The 2023 Toyota bZ4X GR Sport could arrive by the middle of 2022. It should only be a few months away. While the official price hasn’t been released, it’s expected to start at about $37,000. The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E begins at around $43,895, so we like the potential savings.
With front-wheel drive, you’ll get an estimated 250 miles of range. Adding AWD will make the bZ4X heavier, and it could have a lower range as a result. The Mach-E has between 270 to 300 miles of range.
While the Toyota bZ4X GR Sport is a good start for making the new EV more desirable, it could use a little more muscle. It’s already starting behind the Ford Mustang Mach-E. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
