2023 Toyota 4Runner Trims: Want, Buy, Pass
Want: 2023 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro
The 2023 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro is the final 4Runner trim. It starts at $53,270. The 4Runner TRD Pro comes standard with a multi-terrain monitor, SofTex-trimmed seats, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel. It also includes a panoramic view monitor, a smart key system, and a TRD roof rack.
The 4Runner TRD Pro features heated power outside mirrors, a skid plate covering the transfer case, and a skid plate covering the engine and front suspension. It also includes a power tilt/slide moonroof with a sunshade, TRD Pro all-weather floor liners, and a tire pressure monitor system.
The 2023 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro is the best 4Runner trim for off-roading because of features like skid plates and the multi-terrain monitor. It’s the trim to want because it showcases the 4Runner’s full potential. If money was no object, then the TRD Pro is the way to go. That being said, it isn’t the trim to buy for the average consumer.
Buy: 2023 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road
The 2023 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road is the trim to buy because it’s the perfect middle ground between 4Runner trims. The TRD Off-Road starts at $42,650.
The midsize SUV comes standard with hill start assist control, an electronic locking differential, and multi-terrain select. It also includes a blind-spot monitor, crawl control, and heated power outside mirrors.
Car and Driver claims that the TRD Off-Road is the best 4Runner trim. It’s the trim to buy because it allows drivers to enjoy the perks of extra off-roading features for a price that’s still affordable. It offers a great 4Runner experience without being as expensive as the TRD Pro.
Pass on the SR5, TRD Sport, 40th Anniversary Special Edition, and Limited
The 2023 Toyota 4Runner comes in many different trim levels, but not every 4Runner trim is worth the money. The base model SR5 doesn’t have the same off-roading chops as upper trim levels with more features. The TRD Sport, 40th Anniversary Special Edition, and Limited trims offer decent value for the money, but the TRD Off-Road has the best value proposition.
If you’re in the market for a new 2023 Toyota 4Runner, the TRD Off-road and TRD Pro are the best options. That being said, it’s tough to ignore how antiquated the 4Runner nameplate is becoming. Toyota recently redesigned the Tundra pickup truck and the Sequoia SUV. Is it time for the 4Runner to get a redesign as well to stay relevant? Off-roading prowess isn’t enough to keep the 4Runner in the game.
