Will the Subaru Solterra be good off-road?
While not as rugged as something like the Jeep Wrangler, the 2023 Solterra will offer some utility. It will come standard with AWD and ample ground clearance. It also will offer 215 horsepower and 249 pound-foot of torque, and that is something that is likely to be appreciated.
The estimated range for the Subaru Solterra is somewhere north of 200 miles. This should be enough to reduce range anxiety, but it is not as much as the Kia EV6 offers. Where the Subaru makes up for this shortcoming, is in its capability. Its 8.3 inches of ground clearance is more than most of the competition. Lending itself to light trail duty or a vehicle that is ready for a camping adventure.
Additionally, the new Solterra will feature Subaru’s off-road assist mode. This system keeps the transmission in a lower gear, which helps when handling things like snow or rough terrain.
How much will the new Solterra cost?
Subaru has not yet announced official pricing of the Subaru Solterra. We expect it to have an entry price of $40,000. But, because this model is an EV, it will be able to qualify for a Federal Tax Rebate. Which means some price reduction on your purchase. Once pricing is revealed, we will provide an update.
According to MotorTrend, all Solterra models that have been produced for 2022 have already been sold. So, if you are interested in Subaru’s new EV crossover, you will likely have to wait until 2023 to buy one from a dealership.

It would not be surprising if Subaru begins to offer a more rugged version in the future through its Wilderness lineup.
