It’s no secret that the Ram 1500 has a seedy past regarding reliability. Plus, the Toyota Tundra has an excellent reputation for durability. But the truck market is weird these days, and things are changing. The 2023 Ram 1500 might actually be more reliable than the 2023 Toyota Tundra.

J.D.Power gave the Ram 1500 a score of 86 out of 100 for reliability. The Toyota Tundra has a score of 70 out of 100. Rankings between 70 to 80 are average, scores between 81 and 90 are great, and anything between 90 to 100 is best. 

So, the Ram truck has an above-average reliability score, while the Tundra just barely makes the cut-off for an average score. 

The next-generation Toyota Tundra might not be as reliable as the outgoing model because of new engines and a new suspension setup. But the Ram 1500 has improved since it was redesigned in 2019. 

How many miles will the Ram truck last? 

The average 2023 Ram 1500 pickup truck should last between 250,000 to 300,000 miles. However, there are examples of Ram trucks that have surpassed 300,000 miles and are still going. 

With proper care and maintenance, the Ram 1500 can provide over 17 years of service on the road. This is if drivers drive about 15,000 miles per year, which is the national average.

Is the Ram 1500 better than the Toyota Tundra?

Also, Ram still leads the entire pack regarding comfort. Its smooth ride over pavement and the quiet interior is hard to beat. But the Tundra feels a bit more advanced with brand-new infotainment screens. 

The Ram EcoDiesel engine is more efficient than the Tundra’s hybrid powertrain. The Tundra’s iForce MAX hybrid setup is falling short of EPA estimates. But the Tundra has more power and speed for an athletic performance unless you bring the Ram 1500 TRX into play. 

While the Ram 1500 doesn’t have the best history for being dependable, things are changing. It outranks competitors as the most reliable full-size truck. Plus, it’s still the most comfortable option, even though it’s been the same since 2019.
