While specific details of the 2023 Nissan Frontier are still a mystery, it is easy to speculate what could be coming for this mid-size truck. Because Nissan just updated the Frontier for 2022, there likely won’t be any major changes made to this pickup. One thing that will surely remain the same is the presence of the PRO-4X model. The Frontier PRO-4X has long been the off-road version of Nissan’s truck. So, will this pickup continue to dominate off-road?

What is the Nissan Frontier PRO-4X?

The Frontier is already a fairly capable truck, but the PRO-4X trim really takes things to the next level. For the 2023 model, the Frontier PRO-4X will likely still come with things like all-terrain tires and come standard with four-wheel drive. Additionally, the PRO-4X gives this mid-size truck a more rugged suspension.

The PRO-4X also boasts skid plates along with a 360-degree camera with off-road mode. These will help you navigate the road less traveled with confidence, and they will likely be continued for 2023. Of course, no off-road truck is complete without a locking differential. The Frontier PRO-4X features an electronic locking rear differential.

What do we know about the 2023 Nissan Frontier?

According to Kelley Blue Book, the 2023 Frontier will be fairly similar to the 2022 model. It should have a starting cost of around $28,000, but of course, that could change. For nearly 20 years, Nissan did not give the Frontier a major update. So, it makes sense that the 2023 model will be identical to the 2022 model.

The Nissan Frontier will probably keep its four trim levels. Trim levels of the Frontier include the S, SV, PRO-X, and PRO-4X. The PRO-4X cannot tow as much as some other Frontier models, but it does come with the most off-road capability.

Should you wait for the 2023 Frontier?

The 2022 Nissan Frontier is still a new truck, but the 2023 model is on its way. It will likely be released at some point this fall. If you want a mid-size pickup that can go off-road, the 2022 model is worthy of consideration. But, some folks do like to have the latest thing, and that is what the 2023 Frontier will be.

The 2023 Frontier is not on sale yet. It should be coming at some point in the near future, though, and that might make it worth waiting for. Especially if it manages to retain a similar price point to the current Frontier.

The 2022 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X has a starting price of $38,120. And if Nissan can keep the MSRP around that point, it will continue to be cheaper than other off-road pickups like the Toyota Tacoma. And with the third generation of the Frontier, it feels much more competitive than Frontier models of the past.

That will likely continue for 2023, as Nissan has put great effort into refining the interior and driving experience that this pickup offers. Even if you are taking on the road less traveled.
