Mazda has some pretty exciting news for one of its SUVs, the 2023 CX-50. The Mazda CX-50 first hit North American roads for the 2022 model year, and it has been a fairly popular vehicle. If you are interested in an SUV that can handle some adventuring, Mazda now has the answer. The 2023 Mazda CX-50 Meridian Edition has some exciting visual changes as well as all-terrain tires. And that helps this vehicle to look more aggressive.

How expensive is the Mazda CX-50 Meridian Edition?

In terms of cost, the 2023 Mazda CX-50 2.5 Turbo Meridian Edition has an MSRP of $39,950. That is a cost of about $2,800 over the standard 2.5 Turbo model. And to some shoppers, that might be a price worth paying. It adds all-terrain tires as well as some new visual cues, which make this Mazda SUV look like an adventurer.

If you want to add a roof rack and a roof platform, you can opt to purchase the Apex package. This package costs $1,235 extra. But, it does add that functional roof platform, which means you do not have to go to the aftermarket to find one.

Some buyers might want the features of the Meridian Edition, but don’t want to pay the extra cost. According to Car and Driver, Mazda has the answer there through the dealer-installed package known as the Meridian Choice package. This package retains the roof rack as well as hood graphics.

Should you buy the 2023 CX-50 Meridian Edition?

This SUV is not yet available, but it is coming. If you are interested in an SUV that can handle some light adventuring, this model might be right for you. Perhaps a disappointing fact about the Meridian Edition is the lack of mechanical changes.

You still get the 256 horsepower engine that is featured in other CX-50 2.5 Turbo models. And, you get all-wheel drive as well. But the AWD system has not been revised and other off-road changes were not made.

Because of this, it’s tough to call this SUV a true off-roader. Although, it will certainly be capable of some light trail work or getting you to your next campsite. It just would have been nice to see some more mechanical changes made. But, that likely would have driven up the cost.

When can you buy this new SUV?

Mazda has stated that it expects the 2023 Mazda CX-50 Meridian Edition to arrive toward the end of August or at some point in September. So, if you are interested in this version of the CX-50, you will need to wait.

The CX-50 Meridian Edition is two steps below the premium CX-50 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus, which has a starting MSRP of $42,300. Surely, this new version of the CX-50 will become a fairly popular option. Especially for those who want to do some weekend adventuring. But, at the end of the day, the Meridian Edition will likely feel more confident on a paved road than it will on a rough trail.
