Spring is an exciting time as new SUV models emerge. People are finally getting behind the wheel of the new Mazda CX-50. However, the 2023 Mazda CX-50 is a little different from other Mazda SUVs and has one potential drawback to consider.

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 has a stiff ride

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is the first model of its kind, with enhanced off-roading abilities. According to Edmunds, that’s what makes it different from other Mazda models. Being able to tackle the wild means that the CX-50 doesn’t exactly have the typical Mazda performance.

Compared to options like the Mazda CX-50 and CX-30, it has a stiff and firm ride. You can feel each imperfection in the road, and larger impacts could cause the driver and passengers to jostle.

We can’t wait to get behind the wheel to see if the bumpy ride is truly intrusive or if it provides a sense of connection with the road. Connecting with the road offers the feeling of more control and articulation, which is excellent for an off-roader.

The Mazda CX-50 is a bit loud compared to other models too. The larger tires and beefier suspension may cause more wind and road noise at higher speeds. Those looking for a sense of quiet luxury may want to consider another option.

But if you want more off-roading capabilities, then the firm ride and wind noise shouldn’t be an issue. It’s only a potential drawback to consider, and as a result, Edmund recommends taking this SUV for a test drive before making your purchase.

What’s good about the 2023 Mazda CX-50?

According to critics, the 2023 Mazda CX-50 has a sporty and engaging ride. The standard engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder option with 187 and 186 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine for 256 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque with 93 octane fuel.

It has an exciting acceleration and can go from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.5 seconds. It has responsive handling around curves that increases the fun. Plus, the suspension limits body roll while corning and all-wheel drive delivers more traction for a confident feel around bends.

The CX-50 also features above-average off-roading chops. It can conquer steep inclines, rutted dirt roads, and light terrain with ease, thanks to the new Off-road drive mode. It combines the steering and traction control to keep the vehicle moving forward on its intended path.

Does the CX-50 have a nice interior?

Yes, the 2023 Mazda CX-50 features a near-luxury interior with high-quality materials that are a step above the typical features found in Kia, Hyundai, and Honda SUVs. The interior is spacious and comfortable for drivers and passengers.

An 8.8-inch touchscreen comes standard, but you can upgrade to a 10.25-inch unit. The infotainment system can be controlled with the Mazda rotary dial and functions as a touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay is included, but Android Auto requires the use of a USB cable.

Safety features include blind-spot warning, forward collision warning, lane-keeping assistance, an optional 360-degree camera, and more. It includes tons of value for the price, but if you don’t want a firm ride, then proceed with caution.
