Mazda took the approach that “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” for this Mazda SUV. There aren’t any major changes going into 2023. Certainly, we would love to have seen this brand add a touchscreen to the infotainment system, but that didn’t happen. Of course, the lack of changes could have something to do with the new Mazda CX-50.

All S models of the 2023 Mazda CX-5 use a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine that produces 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. If turbo is part of the name, the engine includes a turbocharger. For those models, the power delivered is 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque when using 87-octane gasoline. If you fuel up with 93-octane, the power increases to 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque.

In both cases, the transmission used is a 6-speed automatic. Every new CX-5 includes standard AWD, giving you power on all four wheels. The S models return 24 city/30 hwy mpg of fuel mileage while Turbo versions provide 22 city/27 hwy mpg.

How much does this Mazda SUV cost?

The price range for the 2023 Mazda CX-5 starts with the base 2.5 S model with a starting price of $26,700. The top trim level, 2.5 Turbo Signature, comes in at a little more than $40,000. The relatively affordable price and quality features give this Mazda SUV the Best Compact SUV for the Money award.
