“Affordable” may not be the first word that you associate the Mazda CX-5 with, but the small SUV is significantly cheaper than many of its competitors. The irony is that the CX-5 is often considered the most luxurious model in its segment. So, from a value perspective, the CX-5 already has a leg up on the competition in the eyes of many consumers.

Who doesn’t want the most value for their money? Talks of an economic recession have Americans looking to cut back on spending. So, why not choose the best option for the money when selecting a new small SUV? Many consumers associate an affordable starting price with value.

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 starts at $26,700. It isn’t the most affordable new small SUV on the market, but when compared to the 2023 Honda CR-V’s starting price of $31,110 the CX-5 seems like even more of a steal. The CX-5 2.5S Select Package and Preferred Package trims are both more affordable than the CR-V’s base model. The CX-5 also comes standard with all-wheel drive, which is a huge perk for its low starting price.

The Mazda CX-5 may not have the same long history of reliability that the Toyota RAV4 has, but both small SUVs offer great value for the money.

The CX-5 gets 24 miles per gallon in the city and 30 miles per gallon on the highway. Its gas mileage pales in comparison to the RAV4’s 31 mpg combined, but the CX-5 makes up for its shortcomings with great standard features.

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 comes standard with radar cruise control with stop and go, a feature that makes driving long distances in moderate traffic easier. It also includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 10.25-inch infotainment system.

The CX-5 comes standard with hill-launch assist, a tire pressure monitoring system, and remote keyless entry. The 2023 CX-5 is slightly more affordable than the 2022 Toyota RAV4. The 2023 RAV4 could be significantly more expensive than Mazda’s small SUV. The RAV4 is the better SUV for long-term ownership, but the CX-5 is the classier model.

Which 2023 Mazda CX-5 trim offers the most value for the money?

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 comes in eight different trim levels. Car and Driver recommends the CX-5 Turbo trim. The Turbo Signature final trim is the most well-equipped CX-5 trim. It comes with Caturra Brown Nappa leather-trimmed seats, genuine layered wood trim, and a Mazda navigation system. The final trim level also includes front and rear parking sensors, a 360-view monitor, and driver attention alert. Is the CX-5 the best new small SUV on the market?
