State-of-the-art safety systems are one of the benefits of a brand-new car, truck, or SUV. Hyundai stepped up its safety game this year with the newest version of the Santa Fe. The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe sport utility vehicle is well-equipped with standard equipment that adds to its value.

How safe is the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe?

The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe has many standard safety systems like Forward Collision Warning and Blind-Spot Monitoring. Hyundai’s Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist comes with car, pedestrian, and cyclist detection. It can also move the Santa Fe through the intersection with Junction Turning. Driver Attention Warning and Safe Exit Assist also come on all trim levels. Hyundai says Safe Exit Assist is exclusive to the Santa Fe and is not available on other similar vehicles in the class.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe a five-star overall safety rating. It earned high ratings in the front, side, and rollover tests. These tests are more stringent than ever for 2023 to make all passengers safer while on the road.

Hyundai’s updated safety systems also met the NHTSA’s performance criteria. This includes Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Crash Imminent Braking.

Did the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick award?

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe its Top Safety Pick Plus award. This midsize SUV earned high marks on all six main IIHS crashworthiness tests. The Hyundai SUV protected the driver in the critical areas of the small overlap front test.

Since the Hyundai SUV has many trim levels to choose from, the headlights earned different scores during testing. The Limited, Calligraphy, Hybrid Blue, and Hybrid SEL Premium with LED projector headlights earned the highest score of “good.” For the SE, SEL, XRT, and Hybrid Limited trims, the LED reflector lights earned an “acceptable” score.

On the front crash prevention vehicle-to-pedestrian tests, the Hyundai SUV earned the highest score of “superior.” These combined scores are a good sign for the Santa Fe’s safety.

What is the gas mileage for this midsize Hyundai SUV?

The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe SE, SE, and XRT trims get 25 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway when equipped with front-wheel drive. These trim levels use a 2.5L four-cylinder engine with 191 hp and 181 pound-feet of torque. If all-wheel drive is selected, that drops to 22 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

The Santa Fe Limited and Caligraphy trims get a 2.5L turbo four-cylinder engine with 281 hp and 311 pound-feet of torque. Fuel Economy is 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive drops that to 21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway.

Hyundai also offers the Santa Fe in a Hybrid powertrain that gets between 33-36 mpg in the city and 30-31 mpg on the highway. If that isn’t enough, the 2023 Santa Fe comes in a Plug-in Hybrid option that gets 30 miles of all-electric range. This works out to 76 mpg MPGe.

The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe has proved to be a safe and fuel-efficient choice for shoppers. With many different ways to configure this midsize SUV, it makes sense it has been a popular choice.
