Most automakers update and refresh nameplates every few years so vehicles can stay competitive. Some automakers include small updates and minor changes for every new model year. What can you do to make the World Car of the Year even better? That’s the question Hyundai will attempt to answer with the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The next Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be the second iteration of the popular electric SUV. According to a UK press release from Hyundai, the 2023 Ioniq 5 includes a 77.4 kWh battery pack. It will have a 315-mile max driving range. The 2022 model year has a 303-mile max driving range.

The 2023 model year will introduce a new trim called the Namsan Edition. The Namsan Edition comes with Hyundai’s Digital Side Mirrors and Vision Roof. The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 will also feature a battery heater with battery conditioning to assist when charging. Temperature-related battery degradation is a huge issue in the world of EVs, so the addition of a new battery heater is certainly welcome.

Hyundai has found a way to make the World Car of the Year even better. Can the Ioniq 5 snag the title for two years in a row? There’s no way of telling how similar Europe’s version of the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be to the version American drivers can buy, but this press release is good news for the future of the Ioniq 5 nameplate. Kelley Blue Book estimates that the next Ioniq 5 will have a starting price of around $40,000.

The word “perfect” is subjective, but the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 got pretty darn close. It checks so many boxes that most automotive publications rank the electric SUV as the best in its vehicle segment. The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is affordable, practical, and provides an incredible driving experience.

If Hyundai does increase the price for the new Ioniq 5 (as automakers often do with new model years), we hope there are some minor enhancements across the board such as the new more powerful battery that the European version uses. As far as tech goes, it’s tough to pinpoint where the South Korean automaker can add more value, but who doesn’t like more standard tech at the base level?

U.S. News & World Report calls the Ioniq 5 the best electric SUV for 2022. Will the 2023 model year receive the same praise?
