The 2023 Honda Odyssey Just Became Consumer Reports Best Minivan

For the 2022 model year, Consumer Reports only reviewed four different minivans. In such a close segment, it’s no surprise that their scores barely differ. With the first 2023 model under review, the pattern remains the same. The 2023 Honda Odyssey just became Consumer Reports’ best minivan, tied with two other models.

Firstly, there is a three-way tie between minivans for the Consumer Reports top overall spot. Starting with the brand new 2023 Honda Odyssey, which scored the same as the other models sitting atop the rankings all year. They are the 2022 Kia Carnival and 2022 Toyota Sienna, each ranking narrowly ahead of the 2022 Honda Odyssey. However, Honda’s minivan offering overtook the segment with its 2023 model year option.

The new model year scored better on the CR road test than the 2022 Odyssey. Consumer Reports recommends both, but what makes the new version better? Why is the 2023 Honda Odyssey Consumer Reports’ best minivan?

Firstly, the 2023 Honda Odyssey gains a new Sport trim. According to HotCars, it’s purely cosmetic, the Sport trim gives the Odyssey a look that screams cool soccer mom instead of just soccer mom. Between the EX-L and Touring trims, the Sport model comes with a blacked-out exterior, including the grille, headlight trim, door mirrors, B- and C-pillars, and wheels. Additionally, the interior gains black leather with contrasting red stitching, a mono-tone roof pillar and headliner, red ambient lights, and more.

The most significant change since 2022 is the elimination of the LX trim. Now, the Odyssey comes in five trim levels, EX, EX-L, Sport, Touring, and Elite. As a result, the base trim now starts at $37,340 instead of $33,040. In short, you’ll have to pay at least $4,300 more for a 2023 Honda Odyssey than a 2022 model. Lastly, the new Odyssey has a new exterior color, Sonic Gray Pearl, a rear-seat reminder system, and an optional CabinWatch child viewing system.

Almost everything is the same for Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports reviews of the 2022 and 2023 Honda Odyssey are nearly identical. For example, the road test, predicted reliability, and predicted owner satisfaction scores are exactly the same. Furthermore, other items scored the same as well. Things like acceleration, transmission, braking, ride, noise, comfort, and fuel economy did not change at all. In addition, CR’s pros and cons of its time with the 2023 Odyssey are the same as the 2022 model year.

CR loves the comfortable ride, quiet interior, and interior space/flexibility for both model years. Moreover, its only complaint about both versions is that the controls take some getting used to. Unintuitive controls are common in vehicles, and Honda didn’t change its minivan setup for 2023. There isn’t much to dislike about the Odyssey, which is why it’s one of the best minivan options.

2023 Honda Odyssey: Consumer Reports best minivan

Although the 2023 Honda Odyssey is now the top-ranked minivan from Consumer Reports, it isn’t different from the 2022 model year. Not only did it barely rank ahead of the older version for CR, but almost nothing changed. Additionally, CR’s reviews are identical, and you’ll struggle to find a difference between the two. For 2023, buyers have to pay more for a base model Odyssey and have the option to make their minivan look sporty. Other than that, expect the same classic Honda minivan that’s been available for a few years.
