Prepare for a luxury battle between electric trucks. The 2023 GMC Sierra EV is coming to try and dethrone the 2022 Rivian R1T. The new GMC Sierra Denali electric truck could provide more comfort and convenience features than the Rivian R1T.

There isn’t much information out about the 2023 GMC Sierra EV yet, but we know it’s on the way. It will join the ranks with the 2022 GMC Hummer EV truck, which just started making its first deliveries.

However, both of these trucks are trailing behind the 2022 Rivian R1T, which was the first electric truck to enter production. While the Chevy Silverado EV will rival the Ford F-150 Lightning, the GMC Sierra EV will be a luxury competitor that could tackle the R1T.

Based on teaser images, the Sierra EV could have a more traditional look, like the F-150 Lightning, while the GMC Hummer EV looks pretty futuristic. However, it will look more advanced than the gas-powered Sierra with LED lights that circle the grille and logo.

How much range does the Sierra EV have?

We’re still waiting to learn about how much power the 2023 GMC Sierra EV will have. It could be mechanically identical to the Chevy Silverado EV. The Sierra EV will use the General Motors’ Ultimum battery packs that are expected to provide up to 400 miles of range.

This would provide an advantage over the 2022 Rivian R1T, which has an EPA-estimated 314-mile range. It gets about 70 MPGe. The Ford F-150 Lightning has a standard battery that provides an estimated 230-mile range, while the extended battery may offer over 300 miles of range.

The GMC Hummer EV has about 350 miles of range. The Silverado and Sierra EV could have a higher range if they aren’t as heavy as the massive Hummer truck.

If the GMC Sierra EV shares the same powertrain as the Hummer EV, then it could have two or three motors based on the trim levels. The GMC Sierra Denali EV would be more enticing if it has more power than the other models. Also, it could have as much as 1,000 hp.

The Rivian R1T cranks out 835 hp and 908 lb-ft of torque. It can tow up to 11,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,760 lbs. The Hummer EV lags behind with a towing capacity of up to 7,500 lbs.

Will the Sierra EV have nice features?

Yes, the 2023 GMC Sierra EV is expected to deliver plenty of power and luxury. It may gain the fixed electric roof from the Chevy Silverado EV and build upon its interior with higher quality materials.

While the Rivian R1T is a midsize truck, the GMC Sierra EV is full-size. It could provide larger seats with more cargo and passenger space.

It could gain the 13.4-inch display and the 12.3-inch digital instrument panel from the Hummer EV. Plus, it’s safe to expect the hands-free General Motors Super Cruise system. The Rivian R1T features a 16.0-inch infotainment display but doesn’t offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

The Rivian R1T starts at $67,600, and the GMC Hummer EV begins at $108,700. The 2023 GMC Sierra EV may start at about $50,000 to $70,000. We will keep you updated as we learn more.
