Congratulations to the 2023 GMC Canyon for being recognized as a J.D.Power AGL Residual Value award winner. It managed to knock the 2023 Toyota Tacoma off the pedestal that it enjoyed for years. The Tacoma won in 2022, while the Canyon received a total refresh.

The J.D. Power AGL Residual value awards are the standard automotive industry leader for market value projections.

It recognizes the vehicle segments that are projected to maintain the highest percentage of the manufacturer’s suggested retail price after four years for mass-market vehicles and three years for premium luxury options.

The Canyon is expected to depreciate by 16 percent over five years with a resale value of $38,412. It could maintain up to 84 percent of the original investment.

The 2023 GMC Canyon has an average reliability ranking. It earned a score of 80 out of 100 from J.D.Power. Any score between 70 to 80 is average, while 81 to 90 is great, and 91 to 100 is the best.

You can expect the average Canyon to last over 200,000 miles. But with proper care and regular maintenance, you can extend its life beyond 300,000 miles. If you drive an average of 15,000 miles per year, your Canyon could provide up to 20 years of service.

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma has a slight edge with a higher reliability ranking. The average model can make it to 300,000 miles, and some examples are still running with over 400,000 miles on the odometer.

It costs about $548 to maintain the Canyon on an annual basis. This is average for trucks, while other new vehicles cost about $652 to maintain yearly.

The probability of the Canyon needing a severe or significant repair is low compared to the segment average. It also has a low frequency of unexpected repairs.
