What makes a car ideal for mature drivers? U.S. News believes it to be good fuel economy, comfort, and space. The Genesis G80 has all of this and more.

Whether you are pro-gas or pro-electric, the G80 offers both. The gas-powered version gets 19 mpg combined. Due to limited availability, the electric version is only available in certain states, but it has an EPA-estimated range of 282 miles.

The ride is comfortable, and there is enough power to feel like the G80 has some pep to it. It’s not as powerful as other luxury models, but it certainly doesn’t feel sluggish.

The G80 has caused a bit of a stir in the auto world due to its somewhat awkward design. It has a long frame, but the roof is low. This can make it difficult for taller drivers to get in, so this is something to take into consideration. However, the upside to this is that there’s is plenty of room once you are seated in both the front and rear seats. Even though individuals with long legs may be unable to stretch out, they won’t feel cramped either.

An overview of the Genesis G80 executive sedan

Genesis equipped the standard G80 with a 300-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It’s available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The sport trim has a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine. This can generate 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque, and AWD comes standard. Meanwhile, the Electrified G80 has dual motors which produce 365 hp.

The G80 has a hefty dose of standard safety features. These include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and intervention, driver attention warning, evasive steering assist, forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping system, and rear passenger safe-exit system.

There is a 12.3-inch digital gauge display and a 14.5-inch touchscreen. Both are easily visible, and the touchscreen comes with voice commands. Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, and satellite radio.

The price range for the 2023 Genesis G80 is $49,500 to $65,250. It’s a little pricey for many drivers on a budget, but this is a great deal if you’re interested in a luxury vehicle. This is especially true thanks to the basic five-year/60,000-mile warranty. Buyers can also purchase a powertrain warranty, which increases this to 10 years/100,000 miles.

If the G80 isn’t for you, then check out these cars

The Genesis G80 has some steep competition. The Subaru Legacy was included on the U.S. News list, and the news site loves its comfortable interior, smooth ride, decent price range, and standard AWD.

The Toyota Camry also made an appearance. It comes standard with a cloth interior, but if you live in a colder climate, you can always invest in heated seats, which up the comfort factor. The Camry also has a hybrid edition, which gets 44-51 mpg in the city and 47-53 mpg on the highway.

For mature drivers who are interested in something a little more adventurous, there is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The E450 is available as either a coupe or cabriolet convertible. There is plenty of room in both rows and getting in and out isn’t a hassle.

Whichever option you choose, the G80 is an excellent choice for older drivers who are looking for a reliable luxury vehicle.
