Are you considering purchasing either the Ford Maverick or the Chevrolet Colorado? Both pickup trucks have their merits. However, the 2023 Ford Maverick has one huge advantage over the 2023 Chevy Colorado: a hybrid model with high fuel economy.

Gasoline can put a strain on the bank accounts of drivers — especially for pickup trucks, which tend to be gas guzzlers. However, the 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid is a rare truck that’s very efficient. The cost of vehicle ownership for Maverick owners is lower with less financial strain at the fuel pump.

However, the 2023 Chevy Colorado doesn’t offer a hybrid model. All Colorado trims are fully gas-powered.

The hybrid powertrain in the 2023 Ford Maverick provides very high fuel economy. In fact, the Maverick Hybrid is the most efficient non-electric pickup truck. Combining power from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor, it gets an estimated gas mileage of up to 42 city/33 highway mpg.

In comparison, the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado, with its range of 2.7-liter turbo inline-four engine options, has an estimated fuel economy of up to 20 city/25 highway mpg. Compared to the Colorado, the Maverick Hybrid gets 22 more mpg for city driving and eight more mpg for highway driving. Also, even the fully gas-powered version of the Maverick with a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine has higher gas mileage (23 city/30 highway mpg).

Another benefit of the high fuel economy of the Maverick is convenience. With lower fuel consumption, it requires fewer trips to gas stations compared to the Colorado.

Other benefits of the Ford Maverick over the Chevy Colorado

The 2023 Maverick has some other benefits over the 2023 Colorado. This includes affordability. The Maverick has a starting price of only $22,595 MSRP. This low price makes the Maverick not only the cheapest new pickup truck in the United States — but also the most affordable vehicle from an American car brand. In comparison, the Colorado starts at $29,200 MSRP.

With its low price and money-saving efficiency, the Maverick is both affordable to own and buy. In times of high inflation, this affordability is appealing for many drivers.

Also, with its smaller size, lower weight, and tighter turning circle, the Maverick is more maneuverable than the Colorado. The maneuverability is helpful for such things as driving around corners, backing up, and parking.

Additionally, despite its smaller size, the Maverick features a surprisingly spacious interior. This includes more rear legroom — with 35.9 inches, compared to 34.7 inches for the Colorado.

With its hybrid model, which delivers very high fuel economy, the 2023 Ford Maverick has a huge advantage over the 2023 Chevy Colorado. To be clear, this doesn’t mean that the Maverick is a better overall pickup truck than the Colorado. The Colorado is a great vehicle with many strong points. However, for automotive shoppers that want a truck with high gas mileage to save money at the pump, the Maverick is an appealing choice.
