More and more trucks are beginning to offer hybrid powertrains. But, if you want a pickup that has a full-hybrid system as standard, you will need to look to the 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid. This small truck gives the efficiency of a hybrid engine while retaining the utility of a pickup bed. Although you cannot get the hybrid system with all-wheel drive right now, it is still worthy of consideration. Especially because Ford estimates that this compact pickup can get up to 500 miles of range on a single tank of gas.

How efficient is the 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid?

If the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid is any indication, the 2023 model should be fairly efficient. The EPA-estimated city mpg is 42. But, one Youtuber reported getting 50 mpg from a Maverick Hybrid that he was testing. And for a truck, that is seriously good fuel economy. Especially when you consider that the Ford Maverick has a starting price of around $20,000.

Real-world fuel economy will likely depend on how you drive your Ford truck and what you are doing with it. For instance, if you tow often, you will probably take a hit on mileage. At the end of the day, the 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid should be an efficient compact pickup.

When will the 2023 Maverick go on sale?

It seems like the order banks keep getting pushed back for the 2023 Ford Maverick. But, according to Ford Authority, they should open at some point in September. The 2022 Maverick is an extremely popular truck. In fact, it was so popular that Ford was forced to close orders. Making it a pretty hot commodity on today’s market.

It would not be surprising if the 2023 Maverick faced the same supply issues that the 2022 Maverick did. So, if you are really interested in purchasing one, you should take that into account.

Will there be a plug-in hybrid Maverick?

If a normal hybrid is not enough for you, Ford is allegedly working on a Maverick PHEV. A Ford Maverick PHEV would give you the benefits of a gasoline engine along with the ability to drive with some all-electric range. PHEVs are ideal for those who don’t want a full EV, but do want some better efficiency.

Currently, a Maverick PHEV is just speculation. But spy shots have been seen that seem to point that direction. And frankly, it would be a pretty cool update to this small truck.

Is the 2023 Maverick Hybrid worth waiting for?

If you want a hybrid truck, the 2023 Ford Maverick is certainly a good option. And considering you can no longer order a 2022 from Ford, waiting might be your best bet. But, once the 2023 model does go on sale, it could very well sell out. Meaning you might have to pay a markup in order to find one.

Hopefully, Ford does get some of the kinks out of supplying its compact pickup. That way, more people can enjoy the benefits of this small truck. But, only time will tell.
