The 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor is an off-roading powerhouse
The 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R is the latest F-150 Raptor. The Raptor R has enough horses to compete with the Ram 1500 TRX. According to Car and Driver, it uses a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine to make 700 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque.
The Blue Oval calls it “the most powerful Raptor ever for high-performance off-roading.” It features specially tuned FOX live valve shocks. The F-150 Raptor R also comes with 37-inch tires. It has 13.1 inches of max ground clearance.
The new Raptor R has desert running power. Its tires and suspension, combined with the supercharged V8 make the truck practically unstoppable on challenging terrain. The Ford F-150 Raptor R has a starting price of $109,145. It is one of the most expensive pickup trucks in Ford’s lineup.
The Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum is the final Lightning trim
The Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum is the most expensive version of the Blue Oval’s first electric pickup truck model. The Lightning Platinum starts at $90,874. It comes loaded with standard features.
The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum has 300 miles of driving range. It makes 580 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque using two electric motors and the standard extended range battery. It also comes standard with all-wheel drive.
The F-150 Lightning comes standard with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, authentic real wood interior trim accents, and ambient lighting. It also includes a 12.0-inch digital productivity screen, a wireless charging pad, and Nirvana Leather seating surfaces.
The electric pickup truck features plenty of safety and driver assistance features like rain-sensing wipers, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, and Active Park Assist. It also includes a tire pressure monitoring system, an SOS Post-Crash Alert System, and Ford BlueCruise.
2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R vs. 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum
The 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R and 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum are two very different pickup trucks. The Raptor R is the more expensive model but the Lightning Platinum is definitely the more practical model.

If you’re choosing between these two expensive (but awesome) Ford trucks, the main differences between the two models are affordability and practicality and utility. The Lightning Platinum makes a better family driver, especially considering fuel economy. That being said, only one of these models is a true off-roading beast. If off-road thrills are what you’re after, the F-150 Raptor R is the way to go.
