At a starting price of about $27,000, the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV is the cheapest new electric vehicle in America. Though some folks might be skeptical about this all-electric hatchback’s quality given its low price, Chevy packed the Bolt with perks. Here’s a look at five excellent features that make the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV a steal.

1. The 2023 Chevy Bolt EV has a surprisingly spacious cargo area

Although the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV is a subcompact car, its hatchback body style gives it a surprising amount of cargo space. According to Chevrolet, the Bolt has 16.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the rear seats. But with those seats folded, cargo space balloons to 57 cubic feet.

In fact, despite the Bolt EUV being a larger crossover version of the EV, the hatchback boasts 0.1 cubic feet of cargo space more than the Bolt EUV does. That also means the Bolt EV has more cargo capacity than other models in the segment, including the Nissan Leaf, and larger EVs like the Volvo XC40 Recharge and Kia Niro EV.

2. Its driving range is good for the price

Chevrolet offers only one battery option in the 2023 Bolt EV — a 65-kWh pack. It allows the Bolt EV to get up to 259 miles of range on a full charge. That’s more range than many other EVs get, but it’s less than the longest-range EVs on the market.

However, those long-range EVs typically cost a pretty penny. For example, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range can go 358 miles, but it costs about $58,000. So the Bolt’s 259-miles range is unbeatable at its price point.

3. The 2023 Chevy Bolt EV has excellent 1-pedal driving

The Bolt EV also provides an excellent optional driving mode called One Pedal Driving. And as the name suggests, the feature allows drivers to operate the car using only one pedal. One Pedal Driving mode uses a stronger version of regenerative braking, which does its job when the driver takes their foot off the accelerator pedal. Many EVs have a similar mode, but the Bolt’s One Pedal Driving is among the better versions because it stops the car completely if the driver desires.

Using this mode can improve the Bolt’s range and prove convenient in stop-and-go traffic. That said, One Pedal Driving doesn’t remove the brakes’ functions, and drivers will still be able to use the brake pedal in emergencies.

4. Chevrolet gave the 2023 Bolt a large, good-quality touchscreen

Despite the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV’s affordable price, it abounds with tech features. One of the best is the 10.2-inch horizontal touchscreen. Sure, it isn’t the biggest infotainment display on the market, but it’s larger than the 8.0-inch screens common in many other affordable models.

5. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard

In addition to loading the 2023 Bolt EV with advanced driver-assistance systems, Chevrolet also gave the car two other safety-enhancing features. Notably, both wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are included. They allow drivers to connect their smartphones to the Bolt EV so they can focus on the road rather than fiddling with their devices.
