The electric vehicle competition is seriously heating up, and the Volvo C40 Recharge is too hot to ignore. However, the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge does have one drawback to consider. It has less range than popular rivals. 

How much range does the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge have? 

The 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge is powered by a 78-kWh battery pack. It has an EPA-estimated range of about 226 miles, which falls short of the competition. 

For example, the 2022 Tesla Model Y provides up to 330 miles of range, and the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E offers up to 314 miles of range. 

While 226 miles of range is more than enough juice for the average daily driver, it could cause some range anxiety during trips and longer drives. 

But we wouldn’t let this issue become a deal-breaker. The lack of range could only be temporary. The Volvo C40 Recharge is expected to receive over-the-air updates to improve its range. 

How does the Volvo C40 Recharge perform? 

To make up for the current lack of range, the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge provides an incredibly sporty performance. According to Edmunds, it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. That’s only a smidgen behind the Tesla Model Y, which reaches 60 mph in about 4.4 seconds. 

Each Volvo C40 Recharge model comes with standard all-wheel drive and two electric motors. One is in the front, and the other is in the rear to provide instant power along with 402 hp and 486 lb-ft of torque. 

The powerful acceleration is paired with confident regenerative braking, but the ride is a bit stiff. It doesn’t have any drive modes or suspension settings like the Mustang Mach-E and other rivals. 

About 80 percent of the battery can be replenished in about 40 minutes with a fast charger. Plus, the C40 Recharge comes with a complimentary 250 kWh of electricity at Electrify American DC charging stations. 

A Level two charger can fully replenish the battery in about eight hours, and you can have a Level 2 charger installed at home. A regular home outlet or Level 1 charger could take much longer.

How much does the 2022 C40 Recharge cost? 

You can get started in a 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge for about $58,750. This puts it right behind the Tesla Model Y, which has an MSRP of $59,990. Destination fees and dealership markups aren’t included with these prices. 

It comes with a luxurious interior filled with upscale materials while being leather-free. The seats are made with recycled materials and provide plenty of support. Plus, the panoramic sunroof fills the cabin with natural light. Ambient lighting provides a unique style at night. 

The 9-inch infotainment system is powered by Google Android-based software but includes Apple CarPlay connectivity. A digital gauge cluster and 13-speaker Harman Kardon audio system are standard.

Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. 

While the Volvo C40 Recharge has less range than rivals, it will catch up soon. Plus, it comes with tons of standard features, making it one value-packed luxury option.
