Performance

While the 2022 Silverado offers more engine options, the 2022 Tundra boasts a greater power output, especially with its new hybrid model. Combining a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine with an electric motor, it doles out an incredible 583 hp and 437 lb-ft of torque. The most powerful engine available for the 2022 Silverado is a 6.2-liter V8, which generates 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Also, while the fuel economy figures are not yet available for either truck, the Tundra is likely to be better with its efficient hybrid powertrain.

Another advantage for the Tundra is its new suspension, which uses coil springs for the rear suspension. The Silverado still uses leaf springs. Also, unlike the Silverado, the Tundra has electronically controlled adaptive dampers. Both trucks have a 10-speed automatic transmission, but the Tundra is the only one that has a sequential shift mode.

Towing and Payload

The Silverado has the advantage on the towing front. It can tow up to 12,750 pounds and has a payload capacity of 2,350 pounds. In comparison, the Tundra has a maximum towing capacity of 12,000 pounds and a maximum payload capacity of 1,940 pounds.

Design

If you had compared the designs of the Tundra and Silverado last year, the Silverado would be the obvious choice. For many years, the design of the Tundra was stale and outdated. However, it’s an entirely different story this year. While the design changes of the Silverado are relatively minimal, the Tundra received a complete overhaul.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. However, it’s difficult not to appreciate the visual appeal of the 2022 Tundra. It has a bold squared theme for the lights, grille, mirrors, wheel arches, and interior. With its blacked-out A-pillars, the Tundra has a sleek modern appearance. Also, the Tundra TRD model has a more aggressive design with its striking hood accents.

Technology

The 2022 Tundra has many technology upgrades. This includes a more advanced infotainment system with an available 14-inch touchscreen. In comparison, the largest touchscreen offered for the Silverado is 13.4 inches. Both the Tundra and Silverado offer similar features for the infotainment systems. This includes a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, voice control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, and cloud-based navigation.

For safety technologies, the Tundra has the advantage. All of the Tundra models, including the base trim, come standard with the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 suite of driving assistance technologies. This includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, automatic high beams, road sign assist, and lane tracing assist. Also, the Tundra comes standard with a rear-seat reminder feature and a blind-spot monitor system.

2022 Toyota Tundra vs. 2022 Chevy Silverado: Which full-size pickup truck is better?

Both the 2022 Tundra and 2022 Silverado are excellent choices for full-size pickup truck shoppers. However, overall, the Tundra is the better choice. While the Silverado has better towing capabilities, the Tundra benefits from its powerful new hybrid powertrain, a sleek new design, and many technology upgrades.
