2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro vs. 2022 Nissan Titan Pro-4X

The off-road battle featuring these two full-size pickup trucks is a close one. Each has its advantages, but which one is right for you? The Tundra TRD Pro and Titan Pro-4X each come stocked with features to ensure your pickup truck is ready for all terrains. Off-roading is effortless when you choose one of these two models.

The most glaring differences between the two are the engines and starting price. The 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro comes with only a hybrid engine, and the 2022 Nissan Titan Pro-4X only gets a 5.6-liter V8. Although the official EPA estimates are unreleased, the Tundra will likely get better gas mileage. The Titan is significantly more affordable, starting roughly $10,000 lower than its competition.

The Tundra TRD Pro pickup truck is hybrid only

While fuel efficiency is essential, it isn’t always on buyers’ minds when looking for a pickup truck. That’s why the hybrid powertrain availability is good, but no V8 engine to go with it hurts the Tundra lineup. Every other truck in its class offers a V8 engine, and that’s the only thing the Titan provides.

For a reasonable price of $47,000, you get an off-road-focused Nissan Titan with a V8 engine. Unfortunately, that means you’ll be stopping for gas far more often than anyone would like. It does, however, add a bit of power to the pickup truck and make it more capable. Off-road driving feels a bit more comfortable with that kind of engine power as you sit behind the wheel.

The 2022 Nissan Titan Pro-4X is affordable

Compared to the Tundra TRD Pro and other brands’ off-road models. For instance, the Ford F-150 Raptor starts at around $53,000. That’s less than the Tundra but still far more than the Titan’s offering. It’s one of the most affordable options with excellent features.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is considered overpriced by most review outlets from top-to-bottom. Although the redesign helped the new year, it still falls short in many places compared to the competition. A worse truck compared to other options combined with a higher starting price is never a good thing. The Tundra TRD Pro vs. the Nissan Titan Pro-4X is no different.

What off-road features do the pickup trucks have?

The Tundra TRD Pro comes with plenty of extras to make sure you’re ready for the road ahead. Features like 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, a TRD Pro off-road suspension with fox shocks, and a 1.1-inch front lift. Multi-terrain select and crawl control allow the pickup truck to change its driving style on harsh surfaces. Stack all those features on top of an electronically controlled locking rear differential, Toyota Safety Sense, a JBL 12-speaker premium audio system, and the Toyota LED light bar on the front grille, and you’ve got yourself one heck of an off-road machine.

Every 2022 Nissan Titan Pro-4X comes with a front skid plate, 8.9-inch ground clearance, and 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. Additionally, the lift gives it a 22.8-degree approach angle and 26.8-degree departure angle. Other convenient accessories include Bilstein off-road shock absorbers, an electronic locking rear differential, an integrated brake controller, and standard front and rear disc brakes.

You get immense capability and a luxurious interior with either of these two off-road pickup trucks. Drive on all terrains, tow heavy loads, and save a bit of money by choosing the Titan over the Tundra. Choose the TRD Pro over the Titan Pro-4X if fuel economy and lots of off-road features are essential to you. Although, the Titan Pro-4X isn’t far behind in either category, especially after seeing the price.
