We’re glad that the 2022 Rivian R1T has the chance to answer the call of the wild. The new Rivian R1T electric truck may have just set the standard for upcoming rivals. It’s one durable ride that conquers the wilderness in style.

The 2022 Rivian R1T is a serious off-roader

The 2022 Rivian R1T dares the upcoming Ford Lightning and Jeep Gladiator to keep up in the Rocky Mountains. It has a secret weapon against internal combustion because the electric motors aren’t affected by the thin air at higher altitudes.

The team at Car and Driver went from an elevation of 9,600 feet Breckenridge all the way up to the Continental Divide at around 12,600 feet. This provided the optimal proving grounds for an EV truck.

How well is the Rivian R1T equipped for off-roading?

The 2022 Rivian R1T is a powerhouse with instant torque. With the medium-sized battery, you get 835 hp and 908 lb-ft of torque. The Rivian R1T can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in three seconds and tow up to 11,000 lbs.

Because the R1T has a hydraulic roll-control system instead of anti-roll bars, body control seems nonexistent. Each axle and corner are connected via the hydraulic network to control the ride.

This enhances the off-road articulation as well. Hydraulics can be decoupled, and the wheel motion on one side of the axle is totally independent of the other side. This helps prevent head toss on bumpy trails.

Also, the 2022 R1T has a ground clearance that can be increased to 14.9-inches. The $2,000 off-road package includes dual front-bumper tow hooks and a one-piece carbon-fiber underbody shield.

The Off-Road and Rock-Crawl modes adjust the accelerator mapping. The amount of pedal travel is reduced to help control the truck over obstacles in a smooth manner. Plus, the Rivian R1T electric truck travels in peaceful silence. While descending, regenerative braking provides confidence and adds to the battery charge.

Is the 2022 R1T equipped for camping?

The 2022 Rivian R1T might be a camper’s dream. There is storage everywhere. The 14-cubic-foot under-bed storage compartment can store ice. There is a front trunk, and gear tunnel behind the rear seats. It can be accessed from the outside.

An optional sliding platform makes it easy to access luggage and can be transformed into a table. The available Camp Kitchen includes two high-wattage induction burners, a dining set, and a collapsable sink with a four-gallon water tank. There are three 12-volt outlets, six USB-C ports, and a 120-volt AC plug for charging devices.

A charging network is being extended. With the 135-kWh battery pack, you get about 300 miles of range. The 180-kWh battery pack provides 400 miles of range. Charging stations will provide about 140 miles of range in 20 minutes.

You can get started with a new Rivian R1T for $67,500. You may qualify for a tax credit. You can reserve your model with a refundable $1,000 deposit. Rivian R1T models will arrive early in 2022. Plus, you can trade your current vehicle in on the Rivian site.
