The Ford F-150 was awarded the title of North American Truck of the year in 2021. In 2022 the F-150 isn’t even in the running for the award. The 2022 Rivian R1T gave the F-150 the boot, and it’s coming for the title of Truck of the Year.

The 2022 Rivian R1T changed the game

The 2022 Rivian R1T is the first mass-produced electric pickup truck to hit the streets in America. The R1T has mostly been delivered to Rivian employees, but it is still the only electric pickup truck on the market available for purchase as of late November 2021. Ford is releasing an electric truck of its own, but it won’t arrive until 2022.

The Rivian R1T is unlike any other truck because of its power and unique off-roading capability. The R1T is an electric adventure truck. It is so capable that it was even able to conquer Hell’s Gate at Moab.

The electric pickup truck will make a massive 800 horsepower using its quad-motor powertrain system. It can go from 0-60 miles per hour in a mind-blowing three seconds. The Rivian R1T will come standard with 300 miles of range.

The Ford F-150 was the 2021 North American Truck of the Year. This year, the 2022 Rivian R1T is the only full size truck that is a finalist for the 2022 North American Truck of the year. The other two trucks are both compact trucks, so it’s unlikely that either of them gave the F-150 the boot.

The 2022 Rivian R1T is far from the average pickup truck. The F-150 may be the quintessential gas-powered truck, but the R1T’s quad-motor system puts it in a league of its own. All the Truck of the Year finalists are innovative new models.

The Ford Maverick is the first standard hybrid Ford truck, and it’s also incredibly small. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is another finalist that is novel to the automotive industry because of its unique size and price. The Rivian R1T is perhaps the most innovative model of all. With such exciting new electric trucks being rolled out, the Ford F-150 may not win as many awards as it has in previous years.
