The next generation of Range Rover will debut on October 26th, Land Rover confirmed. The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover will be revealed to the world online and can be watched by anyone for free. The automaker took to its Instagram on Wednesday, October 20th to announce the reveal using a short teaser video. In the caption, Land Rover calls it “the most desirable Range Rover ever”.

The video is very short and doesn’t show much of the vehicle at all. It’s mostly music playing and showing a few people, followed by the announcement text at the end. Sprinkled in the middle is a slow shot of the front-end of a Range Rover. Unfortunately, it’s so zoomed in you can only make out a bit of the top of the front grille and the “Range Rover” text above it on the hood.

Tapping the link in the bio of the Land Rover Instagram page will take you to the website to sign up to be informed of the announcement video going live. It’ll take place on October 26th, 2021 at 3:40 PM EST. Giving the British automaker your information will grant you email notifications for the upcoming debut. It also threw in a few extra questions about your interest in electrification, which is something to keep an eye on.

What to expect

With a new generation of any vehicle comes a full redesign. We expect the 2022 model to have a newer, fancier design on the exterior while maintaining that signature Range Rover look. We can already tell from the teaser that the front-end of the vehicle hasn’t changed much. There could still be redesigned head- and taillights, bumpers, and new curvatures along either side.

The Range Rover already adopted the plug-in hybrid variant, so what else could come for the new generation? Since signing up for the debut notification asks about electrification, could the all-new 2022 Range Rover have an electric variant? The automaker plans to launch six all-electric Land Rovers in the next five years, and have 60 percent of its lineup battery powered by 2030. CEO Thierry Bolloré told MotorTrend that Land Rover “will achieve zero tailpipe emissions by 2036”.

Land Rover has two new platform architectures for its next generation of vehicles. The Discovery, Defender, and Range Rover will use the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA). Since the brand is moving in the direction of electrification for both Land Rover and Jaguar, there’s likely going to be a related announcement. It seems unlikely that an electric Range Rover would come out as soon as the 2022 model year. Though once the redesign is announced, Land Rover could mention an electric variant coming a year or two later. The gas-powered Range Rover starts at $92,000, so we expect the EV to be quite expensive.

We’ll have to wait and see what is officially coming to the new Range Rover this model year. Any redesign is an exciting one but the Range Rover is a particularly iconic model to which many are looking forward. The potential is huge for an announcement like this one. Electrification, new technology, and of course a sleek new look could be on the way. The only way to watch the official reveal is through Land Rover’s website. The debut takes place on October 26th, 2021 at 3:40 PM EST.
