Things are hurting at the pump as gas prices continue to climb, making us worried about massive trucks like the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX. Heck, the Ram 1500 TRX is named after a dinosaur. No wonder it loves fossil fuels. But it may need to adapt to survive.

The 2022 Ram 1500 TRX isn’t exactly fuel-efficient

The 2022 Ram 1500 TRX is back, which is exciting news if you want a monster truck. But fair warning, this beast is thirsty. It only gets an EPA-estimated 10 mpg in the city and up to 14 mpg on the highway.

With gas prices on the rise, this might be a deterrent. Prices have increased by $1.22 in the last year. Supply has been trying to catch up to demand as more Americans return to the road after easing Coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions.

Gas prices may remain high for a bit longer. But even if they don’t, can the TRX’s Hellcat engine meet rising emission standards? Will the truck go electric? Let’s see if we can find anything about its upcoming plans.

Can the Ram TRX meet riding emission standards?

The 2022 Ram 1500 TRX is powered by the supercharged Hellcat 6.2-liter V8 engine. It cranks out 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. It sends this truck flying from 0 to 60 mph in about 3.7 seconds, which is incredible for such a large truck.

The Hellcat helps the Durango reach 60 mph in about 3.5 seconds. But due to the inability to meet rising emission standards, the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat has been discontinued. It may go away completely as well.

Dodge CEO, Tim Kuniskis, shared that the production of the 6.2-liter V8 Hellcat will come to an end in 2023. It will be replaced by an upcoming electric muscle car for 2024. We should see a concept soon.

The new EV could be the Dodge Challenger, Charger, or Durango. We could even see an electric Jeep Trackhawk in the mix. However, the quiet electric motors will feel a bit different compared to Hellcat roars.

But you can still enjoy the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX until new models arrive. The 2023 Ram 1500 TRX is expected to have mid-cycle updates. The interior could gain better tech, and the exterior might feature sharper looks.

There are a few rumors about new engines entering the mix. The refreshed TRX could have V6 and V8 options that are paired with a 48-volt hybrid system. Although, we’re hoping it can still match 702 hp.

Until we learn more about the 2023 TRX in a few months, we can focus on the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX. There is a new limited-production Ignition Edition that’s hitting the streets. Only 875 models will be available.

The Ignition Edition features exclusive bright-orange paint, black 18-inch wheels, and unique bedside graphics to set it apart. Orange and copper accents are found in the interior with heated and ventilated seats and a leather-and-microsuede-wrapped steering wheel.

The 2022 Ram TRX has an MSRP of $73,380. The Ignition Edition increases the price to about $93,280. We will keep you updated as we learn more about this truck’s future. But for now, the Hellcat has limited days.
