2022 Polaris Slingshot Stops as Well as It Shows and Goes

The three-wheeled Polaris Slingshot gets a host of new accessories for 2022, including a new hood, top, and Brembo brakes. And the Slingshot SLR trim returns for 2022 in-between the SL and R, offering the latter's extra performance with the former's comfort features.

If you want to make a statement on the street, it’s hard to find something that does it better than a Polaris Slingshot. And in Slingshot R form, the three-wheeler has the performance to match its wild looks. But while Polaris’s autocycle doesn’t have much in the way of competition, the company continues to refine it regardless. And for 2022, the Polaris Slingshot is getting more than just accessories and features.

Polaris lets the 2022 Slingshot stop in style with a new top, hood, and Brembo brake options

In years past, Polaris Slingshot updates have been as much about style and ease of use as performance. The 2021 model, for example, gained paddle shifters after owners and reviewers wanted more control over the optional automated-manual transmission. And it’s a similar story with the 2022 Slingshot.

Up until now, the Polaris Slingshot only offered one kind of optional roof, er, top. But the 2022 model gets a second option, dubbed the ‘Excursion Top.’ It provides more headroom and better visibility than the current top, Autoblog says. Also, it’s a soft-top, rather than a hardtop. And you don’t need tools to install or remove it.

Given that the Slingshot lacks a standard roof, cabin airflow isn’t exactly a problem. However, if you want more, the 2022 Slingshot has a solution: its new ‘Vented Sport Hood.’ As its name implies, the hood has fender vents as well as a hood scoop to funnel more air into the cabin. It’s standard on the 2022 Slingshot R and optional on lower trims. And while the Excursion Top is limited to the 2022 model, the Vented Sport Hood is compatible with 2021 and 2020 Slingshots.

Last but certainly not least, especially for performance-minded drivers, the 2022 Polaris Slingshot offers Brembo front brakes. They’re 14% bigger than the standard ones and come standard on the 2022 R; they’re optional on other trims. And they’re available in red or orange.

But as noted earlier, the 2022 Polaris Slingshot isn’t just getting new toys. It’s also getting a new trim—well, a new version of an old trim.

The lineup grows by one: the 2022 Polaris Slingshot resurrects the SLR trim

Limited-edition model aside, the Slingshot R was the range-topping model for the 2021 MY. But while that’s still the case for 2022, there’s now another trim between it and the SL: the SLR. It’s the first time Polaris has offered the Slingshot trim since 2019.

As expected, given its position in the lineup, the 2022 Polaris Slingshot SLR blends the comfort-oriented aspects of the SL with the R’s performance upgrades.

So, it has the R’s 203-hp version engine and its two driving modes, though not its standard (on AutoDrive models) paddle shifters. It does, however, have the R’s wider rear tire, Jalopnik says.

Also, like the SL, the SLR comes standard with a 100-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system, a 7” center touchscreen, and a rearview camera. But it adds the otherwise optional Sport Interior Package, which comes with sport seats and interior accents. If you want navigation or Apple CarPlay, though, those are still only standard on the 2022 Slingshot R.

There’s a whole ‘Series’ of optional accessories

Speaking of features, Polaris bundles several together in packages called ‘Series’ for all 2022 Slingshots. As of this writing, Polaris hasn’t released every single feature for all the Series. But it’s revealed enough for potential buyers to get a general idea. And like before, some accessories are part of multiple Series:
