The 2022 Nissan Armada is one of the biggest and best competitors among full-size SUVs. However, the Armada isn’t a cheap SUV, even for the base model, and its higher trims are much more expensive. Let’s look at whether the range-topping 2022 Nissan Armada Platinum is worth over $65,000.

An overview of the 2022 Nissan Armada

Starting at about $51,000, the standard Nissan Armada has a 5.6-liter V8 producing 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. This potent engine allows the SUV to tow up to 8,500 pounds, Car and Driver reports. And despite its large size, the Armada drives well. Sure, it’s not as agile as a sports car, but it’s not as slow as its size might indicate.

As for features, the Armada’s interior is large and spacious. The standard model offers three rows seating up to eight people. Every rider should find the seating comfortable, as the SUV provides plenty of legroom and headroom. In addition, the relatively quiet cabin boasts attractive, comfortable materials.

The 2022 model also provides many infotainment features. Its large 12.3-inch touchscreen display provides access to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Armada also has wireless phone charging capability.

Furthermore, Nissan gave every trim plenty of advanced safety features. They include automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring.

Starting at $67,000, the 2022 Nissan Armada Platinum represents a $16,000 premium over the standard Armada. The range-topping Platinum mainly upgrades the interior and doesn’t provide many changes under the hood. For example, the 2022 Armada offers only one engine option, so the Platinum trim has the same V8 as the lower trims.

Not only does the Platinum upgrade the materials, but it also adds many comfort and convenience features. For instance, its third-row seats are power-folding. In addition, the rear seats get two 8.0-inch screens as part of the Platinum’s rear-seat entertainment system.

This trim also gets a new feature for the 2022 model year. Parents and drivers can now fold the Platinum’s third-row seats using a button.

Thanks to those features, Car and Driver said the Platinum trim has “an interior worthy of a legit luxury ute.”

So the 2022 Nissan Armada Platinum is worth its price.

How other SUVs compare

The full-size SUV class abounds with models. And like the Armada, they aren’t cheap. For example, the 2022 Ford Expedition starts at over $50,000. However, a fully loaded Expedition costs almost $80,000, significantly pricier than the Armada Platinum. That’s also the case with other SUVs in the segment, including the Toyota Sequoia, Chevy Tahoe, and GMC Yukon.

All of those SUVs have their pros and cons, however. For instance, while the Expedition packs a smaller, 3.5-liter V6, it harnesses more power than the Armada’s V8.

The field is also competitive in interiors, as a high-end Expedition is an appropriately luxurious SUV.
