The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Black Edition provides a more confident look for the SUV that’s attempting to take on rivals such as the Hyundai Tucson and the Toyota RAV4. Perhaps the Outlander just leveled the playing field a little.

You can get started with the Outlander Black Edition for about $29,995, which is a pretty good deal considering that it comes with a panoramic roof and dual-zone climate control. These features don’t come standard with more expensive models.

The Black Edition includes black 20-inch wheels, black-covered side mirrors, and door handles. The headliner and pillars are finished in black too. The most noticeable upgrade includes black accents in the front, back, and lower bumper. Also, Outlander is presented in black letters.

How does the Outlander perform?

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Black Edition doesn’t have extra power and can be paired with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine pumps out 181 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque.

According to Edmunds, the Mitsubishi Outlander can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 9.7 seconds, which is below average. You may notice the sluggish performance while passing others on the highway.

It has a composed feel around curves with responsive handling. It’s agile in tight city areas, but wind and road noise are noticeable in the cabin. Perhaps the upcoming PHEV powertrain will be a little more engaging.

When properly equipped, the Outlander can tow up to 2,000 lbs. The Hyundai Tucson can also tow up to 2,000 lbs. You can equip the Outlander with AWD for about $1,800, which is steep.

The Outlander gets an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in the city and up to 31 mpg on the highway. These figures are OK. We can’t wait to see what the Outlander PHEV can do.

How much does the 2022 Outlander cost?

You can get started in the Mitsubishi Outlander for about $26,095. So, upgrading to the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Black Edition only costs about $3,900. The Black Edition is built upon the SE trim.

The standard trim comes with 18-inch wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen, a push-button start, and dual-zone climate control. Upgrading to the Outlander SE adds 20-inch wheels, a 9-inch touchscreen, a 360-degree camera system, a hands-free liftgate, heated mirrors, a wireless charging pad, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, etc.

Moving up in trim levels provides access to enhanced leather upholstery, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, tri-zone climate control, ambient lighting, heated seats, roof rails, a head-up display, and 10-speaker Bost audio system.

Standard safety features include followers collision mitigation, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic brakes, lane departure warning, rear parking sensors, and driver attention warning.

The new Mitsubishi Outlander features sleek styling that’s enhanced with the Black Edition. It also provides a luxury crafted interior and third row for kids. It only needs an updated powertrain and sound dampening materials.
