The 2022 Mazda CX-30 and 2022 Jeep Compass are good compact SUVs in their ways. Each one is affordable and stylish, but which one is better? One has a higher-quality interior and more features, while the other is better for off-road driving. Which compact SUV is right for you?
- 2022 Mazda CX-30 starts at just $22,200
- The 2022 Jeep Compass has decent off-road capability
- The 2022 Mazda CX-30 has a more premium interior
2022 Mazda CX-30 vs. 2022 Jeep Compass
Compact SUVs are perfect for those who want more space than a sedan provides but don’t need complete overkill like a full-size SUV. Although these models are much smaller than a standard SUV, you’ll be surprised by the room they provide. Additionally, each one is perfectly capable of anything a regular SUV can accomplish. Plus, you get a peppy engine, a high-quality interior, and better fuel economy.
What the 2022 Mazda CX-30 lacks in rear seating space, it makes up for the most power in its class. It even comes with standard all-wheel drive, unlike many other compact options.
Contrarily, the 2022 Jeep Compass has an ultra roomy rear seat and tons of active safety features. Which one of the two compact SUVs is a better choice?
The 2022 Mazda CX-30 has standard all-wheel drive and the most power in its class
According to KBB, the Mazda CX-30 compact SUV has the most power in its class. The 227 horsepower 2.5-liter turbo model powers an all-wheel drive setup, making it a peppy, sporty, and roomy little vehicle. “The CX-30 bridges the gap between a sports car and an SUV,” KBB says. It’s the perfect compact vehicle for those wanting something fun to drive that’s also practical.
Although it lacks a bit in rear-seat space, it has excellent handling, a premium interior, and comprehensive driver assists. Those who go for the turbocharged engine will have to pay a little extra, starting at $30,200. However, that model also has great extra features like leather seats, a Bose premium audio system, and navigation.
Interior space, off-road capability, and safety features highlight the 2022 Jeep Compass
Unfortunately, the Jeep Compass only has one engine choice for the 2022 model year. That’s a 2.4-liter four-cylinder making 177 horsepower, which falls short of the CX-30. The Compass provides much more rear-seat space than its competition on the plus side. Its interior is one of the roomiest in its class, which is a significant advantage for a compact SUV.
Inside the Compass, an 8.4-inch touchscreen is standard with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a 10.1-inch display comes with the highest three trim levels. As for active safety features, forward collision warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and more are highlights. More features and technology join the lineup when purchasing the Latitude trim or higher.
Thanks to its extra features, the 2022 Jeep Compass is also off-road capable. These include all-wheel drive with low-range gearing, hill descent control, a lifted suspension, and skidplates. While it might not be the best off-road SUV available, or even from Jeep, it’s one of the better compact options.
Which compact SUV is right for you?
Do you crave a little extra pep in your step when driving a small SUV? Then the turbocharged 2022 Mazda CX-30 might be the choice for you. It comes with an interior that rivals luxury compact SUVs, without the premium price. The CX-30 is ultra-affordable, especially for the base trim level.
On the other hand, the Jeep Compass comes with great features. It has only one engine option, which isn’t as powerful, but its off-road features are welcomed. Standard safety features and extra passenger and cargo space make this a compact SUV for families. It’s worth taking an extra look if you want interior space without the exterior bulk.
